Our Tax Returns

Hey all, curious how other people are doing with their taxes. We lost 2,000 compared to last year because the deductions were taken away in tRUMP's tax cuts for the rich. I'm in a blue state, California.

How have you been impacted?

PS - Only, please don't even comment. We know you are never affected adversely by right wing policies. We know you will post that you benefitted mightily lol

Yeah in some cases some will pay more. They doubled the exemption but removed the deductions. So if you have 3 or 4 dependants that are not under 17 the taxes goes up.

Of course, some are just getting less of a refund and confuse that with paying more in taxes.

Some who got less back or paid more may have had a child age out of the child tax credit...

so yes, all other things being equal, some will pay more... but for some of these, it has nothing to do with the Trump tax reform.

Only if you're not rich. If you're rich, it doesn't matter if you have kids or not - your tax bill will be lower.

And our deficit will be higher.

When you have the same return for 8 years and the 9th year you lose $2,000 that is a MASSIVE CHANGE.

One reason for the different tax returns is that President Trump's tax bill lowered withholding. So you got a bigger paycheck, but you didn't have as much set aside by your employer for taxes.

Most people didn't realize this, and that's what the sticker shock is about for many. But of course for others, they had deductions like state and local taxes taken away.

No matter how you slice it, no one who makes less than $500K a year or so is going to like this new tax structure.

I helped someone do her taxes and she 'lost' about $2000 in a refund over last year but that was due to one of her kids turning 17 so they lost the child tax credit--and had ZERO to do with the Trump law.

So some of the reports have nothing to do with the changes in law.

And yes as I a long time ago...when the law first was passed... that the doubling of the exemptions would not be enough to cover the loss of the deductions and that laws for the child tax credit were more restrictive than for a plain dependant. (like a cousin could be a dependant but not a child unless it was court ordered). So in some cases where one had 3 or more unqualified child dependents, they would very well pay more even at a modest amount of $60,000.

Trump Voters Are Starting To File Their Taxes And Are JUST NOW Finally Realizing They Got Screwed Over

The changes include reduced tax rates for banks and businesses; and a personal tax simplification by increasing standard deductions and family tax credits but eliminating personal exemptions on itemized deductions for state and local taxes. There is also a massive increase in the amount of money you must donate to qualify for charitable deductions.

Worse tax return I had in a decade! I admit I voted for @realDonaldTrump but he has officially lost my vote for 2020.

@RepDonBacon I just finished my taxes and we're paying an extra 4k this year since exemptions are gone. With a High D HC plan, this has not been a good year. I voted for you twice now. What's the plan?

@POTUS thank you for screwing the middle class with your tax reform. I have never in my life, I’m 49 years old, had to pay into the IRS until this year. We have a combined income of 150,000. The middle class voted for you. I will not make the same mistake twice.

There are some major regrets. But it came too late.

Wait, what happened? My tax refund is half of last year.

I thought we were all going to get an additional $4k. LIES! Has anyone seen any improvement?

Trump didn't create the system. I'm not complaining about my high taxes I want the government to protect me by building the wall. Instead of giving away my money to the NFL and other countries.

And the trillion dollar permanent tax cut goes to corporations and the 1%. Not to mention how much it adds to the national debt. When we get a real Senate again, they have got to change that shit.

Classic swindle. Now they've got their hands in the "trickle down", skimming the top off every tax return.

I guarantee you that if the "spending cuts" he advocates were cuts in his benefits, he wouldn't have the same outlook he has now.

Just another perfect example of a Republican who plays only for the name on the back of the jersey.
