There is an interesting article in which one of Kimmel's staffers went behind every congressman on twitter that was sending out prayers and thoughts to the families and victims and community and posted how much they received from the NRA. Some of the totals are shocking.

In the 2015-2016 election cycle alone, GOP candidates took $17,385,437 from the NRA. https://twitter.com/GOPChairwoman/status/963891127169572865

This is NOT counting the $21 million given to President Trump.

Bess Kalb posted to them individually and then posted:

God have mercy on your NRA-kept souls:

Richard Burr
$6,986,620

Roy Blunt
$4,551,146

Thom Tillis
$4,418,012

Cory Gardner
$3,879,064

Marco Rubio
$3,303,355

Joni Ernst
$3,124,273

Rob Portman
$3,061,941

Todd Young
$2,896,732

Bill Cassidy
$2,861,047

Do you even know what features make a weapon "automatic" or "semi-automatic"?

In any of the recent shootings, how would limiting ownership to 2 guns save any lives?

Why do you think a "shotgun" is a good firearm for "hunting"? It's not.

If somebody steals your car, or a knife or any other dangerous possession you may own and uses it to commit a crime, should you be held legally responsible?

[Edited 2/15/18 8:03am]

With an automatic weapon, if you hold the trigger, the weapon will continue to fire mutiple rounds. With semi-automatic, it will fire one round but reloads itself. With a semi-automatic weapon, the number of rounds fired depends upon how rapidly you pull the trigger, especially if you use a bump stock.

Limiting gun ownership to two guns - let's see, how many guns did the Las Vegas shooter have in his possession? How many guns did were taken to Sandy Hook?

Adam Lanza:

FIREARMS

Taken to Sandy Hook Elementary:

Izhmash Saiga 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun
Bushmaster Model XM15-E2S .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle
Glock 20 10mm semiautomatic handgun
Sig Sauer P226 9mm semiautomatic handgun

Found in Lanza Home:

Savage Mark II bolt-action .22-caliber rifle
Enfield Albian bolt-action .323-caliber rifle
Volcanic .22-caliber starter pistol

Paddock had 23 weapons in his hotel room, not to mention the ones that were in his car, and at his home.

There is no reason for anyone to own more than two guns. Do you need two handguns to protect yourself? Do you need more than one rifle (excuse my earlier gaffe) to go hunting? How is owning more than two guns beneficial to you?

Again, excuse my gaffe. I was thinking rifle and typed shotgun. I do know the difference. I grew up in the middle of no where Missouri, surrounded by hunters.

The problem with your last question, is that people are NOT stealing these weapons to commit these crimes. THEY ARE OBTAINING LEGALLY, therefore, that is not even a close comparison.

How many guns did Lanza or Paddock actually use in their attacks? How many guns can one person use at a time?

In response to your last sentence, you had said if someone else uses a gun in a crime, the gun owner should be held responsible. Hence my last question.

Online schools would be more cost effective and fix the school shooting problems. I'll never leave the house much. I can order all my food from Jet and soon they will deliver meats and milk. In Japan cops are allowed to go into people's homes and check on things. I believe anyone with kids should allow that.

Seriously? The FBI can't identify who posts something on YouTube? Wow.

Right, one can only use one gun at a time. However, at any time that a weapon runs out of ammunition, Paddock had backups that would enable to continue to shoot without even having to reload.

Yes, but I said within the same household (children, spouse, etc.). If a gun owner is going to have a gun in the home, then he is responsible for whoever in the home uses that weapon if that gun owner DOES NOT act responsibly and keep the gun locked up and out of reach of the children, or other member of the same household.

EVERY school shooting is a tragedy and a single instance is too many. That said,

Of the "18 school shootings this year", 2 were suicides, 1 was a BB gun shot at a bus window with no injuries, 1 was an accidental discharge of real gun at a target mistaken as a training gun with no injuries, an incident where an outdoor gun shot hit a building with no injuries, and a couple others whose inclusion as "school shootings" is dubious.

I'm not downplaying the shootings like this one or the one here in Kentucky a few weeks ago, but, this calculation of "18 school shootings" is an inflated stretch.

Exactly.

How much are the lives of our children worth? A controversial statement, I know, but when they continually fight for the NRA instead of making laws to make it harder for these types of event to occur, that is sure what it feels like.

Yeah - 18 shootings, 3 a week, is a ridiculous manipulation of the data. Much better to just use the numbers of school shooting incidents where kids have actually been wounded or killed, which is 6. That's only 1 a week, which is clearly indicative of a normal and healthy society, with perfectly rational and justifiable views on gun control.

ETA - my country, which admittedly has a much smaller population, has only ever had one school shooting in its entire history (in 1996), which resulted in sweeping reforms of gun laws that pretty much everybody fully supported.

Not one single gun was confiscated under President Obama.

In fact, he had several months where he had a supermajority in the Senate and control of the House. He could have signed any kind of gun control, or gun confiscation, bill that you can think of.

You know how many of those bills were passed and sent to the president for signing?

ZERO.

Anyone that says "liberals" want to confiscate guns, or destroy the 2nd Amendment, is a bald-faced liar or mentally ill.

-

Kind of like how Obama was going to nationalize the banks after he got in office in 2009. They really tried their best to make him out to be the boogyman. Gun store owners made a killing capitalizing on the lie that the "Federal Government was going to confiscate your guns." Gun sells are down I read recently since trump won. I guess they feel their guns are safer with him in office.

=

And when you follow up with some of these folks about those same lies, they'll say republicans stopped it from happening (regardless of democrats controlling the House and Senate for his first two years) or right-wing media exposed the plan and due to prayer, God stopped it from happening lol

You know what I would do if I was in charge? I'd do this: Everybody who loves guns, can go to a rifle range, there you can shoot. If nobody is allowed to have a gun in their house, you don't need one to protect yourself. You can go to the rifle range, and if you're done with shooting, the guns stays there, locked away until the next day when someone wants to use them. Easy as that. Nobody takes the guns home and nobody would be allowed to have guns at home.
