Mike Pence Saw ‘Hamilton.’ The Cast Had Something to Say.

Very interesting. He received some boos and some cheers when he entered the theatre, but I'm glad the Hamilton cast reminded him that America is diverse, and considering the type of administration trump is forming, I'm glad they reminded him that America is diverse, not just made up of one racial group.

“Hamilton,” the hit Broadway musical about colonial rebels shaping the future of an unformed country, took an even more political turn at the end of its performance on Friday night.

With Vice President-elect Mike Pence attending the show, the cast used the opportunity to make a statement emphasizing the need for the new administration of President-elect Donald J. Trump, a Republican, to work on behalf of all Americans.

As the play ended, the actor who played Aaron Burr, Brandon Victor Dixon, acknowledged that Mr. Pence was in the audience, thanked him for attending and added, “We hope you will hear us out.”

“We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” he said. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf all of us."

The audience broke out in enthusiastic applause and cheers.

Mr. Pence was leaving as Mr. Dixon began to read the statement from the stage. A show spokesman said that Mr. Pence stood in the hallway outside the entrance to the auditorium and heard the full remarks.

Mr. Pence made no comment and was photographed smiling as he left the theater. But Mr. Trump, amid meetings on Saturday with possible candidates for White House and cabinet positions, inserted himself into the story with two tweets before 9 a.m. “Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!” he wrote in the first.

A few minutes later he tweeted: “The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”

Mr. Dixon, the “Hamitlon” cast member who read the statement, quickly replied with a tweet of his own: “@realDonaldTrump conversation is not harassment sir. And I appreciate @mike_pence for stopping to listen.”

Mr. Pence had been seated in the center orchestra section, prominently visible to audience members. He appeared engaged throughout the show and applauded after most of its numbers, audience members near him said.

When Mr. Pence entered the Richard Rodgers Theater in Manhattan, he was greeted with a mix of clapping and booing, according to theatergoers who posted on Twitter.

A protester’s sign referred to a line from “Hamilton” while others shouted slogans at Mr. Pence as he left the theater.

that's it i am not going to see that show! #BoycottHamilton (I was seeing that and wondered what happened)! that will show em!

where as he has the right to do that is was in very poor taste and wasn't Hamilton a big proponent of the EC?

Being rude is rude and i suspect there will be some backlash... but i do not think it will have much noticeable impact.

falloff You weren't going to see it anyway, and no there will not be any backlash. The play has already made loads of money, and it's hard to get tickets, because so many want to see it, so your money won't be missed or take anything from the actors' pockets. Trump's administration better get used to the fact, that not all Americans support his win or the nutcases he is picking for his administration.

Did you read my post? I mean I covered that... just because it will have little noticeable impact is not the same as there being No backlash...

Pence better get used to trump's hometown, because New Yorkers don't hold back. Trump's administration better get used to the fact, that not all Americans support his win or the nutcases he is picking for his administration.

And to Some extent that is to be expect and protected by free speech... but as some have learned they need to be careful....

Really dumb. What do they think Trump will do? Make slavery legal again? They're being ridiculous. They are the ones alarming minorities, not Trump. And they're incredibly presumptuous. They hope their little show inspired Pence not to kill all the gays? What? These people really think like that. They think Mike Pence showed up to that show wanting to kill all the gays and reinstate slavery but their dance moves made him a better person.

Lol. What an idiotic statement. Was it not trump who spewed racist rhetoric during his campaign, and now some of the looney trump defenders, are angry and losing their shit, because many Americans are questioning Trump's motives, especially with a few of the people he is picking to join his administration, knowing that some people like Bannon, Sessions, with a racist history, will be part of it. Should Americans not question his picks or be concerned about it?

Well, Americans do have the right to be concerned. Trump is picking batshit crazy-ass people, to join his administration. It's hilarious, how the trump defenders are so sensitive about anyone, who has an opposing opinion about trump, that they whine like fucking cry babies? Well, you better get used to it, and grow some thick skin, because you got 4 years..for now ..of seeing that clown show in action, and the American people will be the ones who will judge, how good or bad, trump will be doing his job as President.

As a U.S. Attorney Jeff Sessions fought to desegregate schools in Alabama and got the death penalty for a KKK leader.

Besides that, you all were calling Trump racist before he picked Sessions as his Attorney General, so don't pretend that now you suddenly have a valid reason. You didn't have a valid reason before he started announcing cabinet picks and you still don't. This is just you go-to smear against anyone you disagree with and you lost a Presidential election because people are sick of it.

that case is POOF gone... it meant nothing... it was something lefties TRUMPED up to divert attention from hillary's ONGOING criminal issues !

it was funny to read about how some civil cases against him was called a disqualifyer but there was nothing to see in hillary's (ON GOING) CRIMINAL investigations!

Or like after the bus tape (and i said he should drop out) it was said there were worst tapes to come! Some insisted one of him using that one word... it never happened!

Can you just imagine Obama going to a Broadway play in November 2008, and at the end of the show the cast publicly addresses him by stating "We, sir — we — are the caucasians in America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights. We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”

Fuck Brandon Victor Nixon.

And then after Nixon was criticized by Trump for doing it, Nixon had the balls to respond with "Conversation is not harrassment".

Well conversation ain't one person standing on a stage surrounded by microphones, speaking his mind while the person he's addressing is already headed out the door and has no microphone to speak into. If that disingenuous asshole truly wanted a conversation with Pence, he should have asked Pence to join him onstage before the show or during an intermission.

And fuck the producers of Hamilton, who are verified racists and hypocrites after their casting call for "non-white men and women" only.

http://people.com/celebrity/broadway-musical-hamilton-receives-backlash/

Broadway hit musical Hamilton is in hot water for posting a controversial casting call, according to reports.

The casting call sought “nonwhite men and women” for roles in the play, which is known for using black and latino actors to portray prominent figures in American history, the New York Times reports.

Despite being common practice, human rights lawyer Randolph McLaughlin said that the advertisement was unlawful, as the show cannot promote its “preference for one racial group over another,” CNN reports.

“I don’t know how a producer in the 21st century can think this is OK,” he continued. “Even when the intention is obviously good, you can’t express racial preference. This is an issue we have been fighting for decades and it started for black people. Imagine if the casting call was for WHITES ONLY. Al Sharpton would have a picket line. Listen, Idris Elba might not be the best person to play James Bond, but he should certainly be allowed to audition for the role if he wants to.”

I disagree. In this new era of keeping it real and ending the plague of political correctness by just saying whatever feels right, and since apologies fall under the umbrella of political correctness, no. I'm all for consequences of the exercising of free speech. But either so-called political incorrectness is ok or it isn't. No apologies.

Not that no one should ever apologize. I'm arguing against people who espouse "real talk" as desirable traits demanding or deserving apologies for such "real talk." If enough people want to boycott Hamilton on behalf of Trump or Pence and their offense (lol), more power to them.

Who the fuck is pretending? What are you drunk again? Trump is a racist whether you want to believe it or not. He has proved that many times, including when he was sued for discriminating against Blacks for not allowing to rent sits in his building. You want to normalize trump's racist bs then that's on you. It's not an Afro-centric play. Some of you are so off your rockers with your misinformation.

Pence was not harassed. It was the audience that was doing the boos and cheers when Pence arrived, not the cast. The cast also did not boo him, when the actor made that statement. That statement was written by the Hispanic guy who was one of the original cast members, but no longer in the current cast. Get your facts straight. Trump is so f'king childish bullying the cast if a Broadway play, who made a 'human' plea tomOence. Trump does not deserve an apology. He is being dramatic and blowing things out of proportion. Is he going to demand an apology from all the protesters that don't like him also? He makes himself look like a damn psycho going off on Twitter like an idiot. And that's what some clueless Americans voted for. Lmao. Smh.

This is who wrote 'Hamilton' and it's doing very well on Broadway.

Lin-Manuel Miranda (born January 16, 1980) is an American actor, composer, rapper, and writer, best known for creating and starring in the Broadway musicals Hamilton and In the Heights. He has won a Pulitzer Prize, two Grammys, an Emmy, a MacArthur "Genius" Award, and three Tony awards, among others.

Miranda wrote the music and lyrics for the musical In the Heights, which opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in March 2008. Miranda's written work for the show earned him numerous accolades, including the 2008 Tony Award for Best Original Score[1] and the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.[2] Miranda's performance in the show's lead role of Usnavi also earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and the show won Best Musical.

Miranda also wrote the book, music, and lyrics for Hamilton, his second major Broadway musical, which was inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow. The show earned the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, and was nominated for a record-setting 16 Tony Awards, of which it won 11—including Best Musical. For his performance in the lead role of Alexander Hamilton in the show, Miranda received the 2016 Drama League Distinguished Performance Award as well as his second Tony performance nomination. Miranda also won the Tony Award for Best Original Score and Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Hamilton.
