MSNBC does it again: Melissa Harris-Perry and guests mock adopted grandson of Mitt Romney

http://www.hollywoodrepor...out-668314

This story is a few days old. MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry and her guests showed a photo of the Romney family. And made race based jokes about Mitt's adopted grandson.

Now she did apologize but still. In light of the recent foot in mouth at MSNBC and on race in general she ought to know better.

although i really have zero interest in defending this, and am not, because again, as i have said so many times... stop watching punditry, however:

which of the statements did you find offensive?

i read the quotes the linked article posts, and the closest thing i could find to one that was offensive was "one of these things is not like the other"... which is not really very offensive.

which parts offend you?

because everything about this reeks of faux right-wing outrage.

That was what got me, she said "thing". She later apologized.

thats a lyric from a decades old sesame street song.

i might be offended if she referred to the kid as a thing outside of the lyrics, but... this just seems like faux right-wing outrage to me.

It might be. I don't care who adopts who. It's good these kids got a home. That's what really matters.

oh, i most definitely agree, particlarly as someone who spent a sizable portion of my childhood in foster care.

but mostly; i just question how much of this is faux right-wing outrage, and how much is genuinely being offended. so far i am seeing it as 90-95% faux.

i have very little interest in defending the pundit and the comedians who made the jokes, but i also have very little patience for people who pretend to be outraged over nothing for attention.

the issue is not just the hatful the song as if a child's race is a factor is who he/she should be allowed to be adopted by.

also that the child was adopted as a token. just to get some credibility?

but the overall mocking tone of the photo.

given some of your past posts, youll have to pardon me for not buying this as genuine outrage.

meanwhile, in actually offensive news; this is quite the rage on facebook:

[img:$uid]http://www.addictinginfo.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Obama-lynching-national-holiday.jpg[/img:$uid]

http://www.addictinginfo....book-page/

someone sensible got ahold of the moderation of the group and is doing some funny goat themed posts though.

apparently he conned the group mods into thinking he believed as they did, and got them to give him mod ability, at which point he dumpe all the offensive shit, and turned it into goat-a-palooza

this is not a free speech issue. she was not arrested. and I have the same free speech to call her out on it. Just like always. As always he bosses get to decided what if anything to do about it. I think it was crass and bigoted. But where did I suggest it was a crime?

i dont watch msnbc, ever. i think it is bias crap news, alongside fox.

plus, i really dont do punditry, for the same reason.

it is exceedingly rare that i will even watch any TV journalism. the few examples are when there active crisis of some sort, and even then i prefer print news.

for the most part, second hand videos and posts in this forum are my main and nearly only source for anything coming from tv news.

Cborg, at least watch this:

That Gillens book is really good.

Her show can be quite left wing so I watch it for that. She will have Amy Goodman on again this sunday which is always good. Hope she takes down Obama.

well, i agree with her; there is a tremendous amount of bullshit and racist bullshit that goes on within the welfare debate. i also agree that the concept of 'being wealthy is risky' is utter horseshit.

its entertaining for her passion about cutting through the bullshit the one woman is selling. i like seeing horseshit and nonsense sliced through in favor of actual facts, as anyone who has ever read more than a few posts from me knows.

but... still punditry. giving the nonsense and horseshit a platform and pretending its worth airing as "opinion" is still giving a voice to bullshit and nonsense.

one big reason people get on and stay on assistance is because it is hard to get off of it. When you save too much or earn too much you can get kicked off. So you can have a job but not one that pays in total what the assistance will pay (when all is factored in) and lose your aide.

I knew a girl that was saving to go to collage and they got threatened to kick the off. She had like $3600 in a small savings account. Lucky she was able to hide the money and she did go to school and is now a nurse. Cycle broken...but she had to in essence launder money.

agreed. FOX and MSNBC are really different sides of the same partisan coin, and largelly the same level of sub-sub-par news.

While I agree that they are both annoyingly hyper partisan I gotta say that there isn't another mainstream news agency out there that lies on the level of fux news. They're almost on the level of the National Enquirer or the Globe... lol

That's my real beef, I'm not as put off by the partisanship as I am by the blatant lying. When the right offers honest criticism of a leftie I'm okay with it and vice versa.

Now, Melissa is a card carrying Obama surrogate...in fact I said on here a couple of months ago that if she opens her legs any wider for him, she's gonna dislocate a hip, lol

But the absolute last straw for me that caused me to stop watching her show was her over the top fawning over Beyonce's new cd. She actually spent an entire segment literally gushing about it being some kind of feminist manifesto....GTFOOHWTBS!!!

I am done with Melissa.

With all of that said, I think it would be a false equivalency to suggest that MSNBC and fux news are the same with regard to factual content.

Ha! I just googled that. Oh, dear.... Particularly amusing was the point where Jessica Valenti enthusiastically endorsed the 'feminist' reading on one side of the split-screen whilst a clip of Beyoncé's pole-dancerisms played on the other side. lol

Melissa just responded on her show; you right wingers made her cry:

http://www.msnbc.com/meli...rris-perry

Yea, Fox is lies all the time and really dangerous lies. MSNBC doesn't lie per se, but there are many bigger truths they refuse to reveal because they may inculcate their lovely Barry.

The humanity of drone victims don't get a reading because it would make Obama look bad while the right bashes Obamacare.

I just saw a lame debate on there about the minimum wage and the democrat, Krystal Ball--like, really?? Is her sister named Kandi Floss?--told the conservative that the higher wage would get deatbeats off the dole. No, Krystal, it is the right thing to do in a bad economy, no need to use the right wing talking point when you are supposed to be on the left.
