If it's Disney racism you're looking for, you need look no further than this classic example:

Don't get so angry Pandy. Just try to ignore the threads with race issues. It will be hard, but you can do it. ADIOS.

It doesn't bother me when cartoon characters are obviously a race or nationality.

What bothers me is when those ethnic animals are portrayed in singular ways

as one dimensional stereotypes that exasterbate harmful prejudices against them.

For example, Shrek is obviously irish, but he's not one dimensional. He's a well-rounded

character.

Likewise, some of the Japanese animations I've seen depict asian and white animals

as characters, but the stereotypes (sometimes unavoidable) aren't harmful---some.

But, Bachus, a greek god being fanned by black slaves? One of thes things that fascinates

me and repulses me so much about old Disney era cartoon as well as old classics like the

exceedingly racist Gone With The Wind is how slaves are always depicted as strangely

content.....bitch please. They're alway shown to be happy, content, niave helpless childlike

people. Niave, child-like people do not survive 400 years of enslavement. rolleyes

(Bolded part) That's the damn truth, but you also have to remember that they would have never shown the rebellious slaves or any of the historical and actual slave rebellions that took place. That would have have portrayed the slaves as 'too strong'...that's why they portrayed Black slaves just like you described, to keep the image of them as 'passive, ignorant, unsightly, etc.' Even in animation they used characters to portray them as such. Just another brainwashing and stereotypical technique. And yes you're right, it takes great, mental strength to survive 400 years of enslavement, and then some.

I remember as a child questioning the way many of the cartoon characters were portrayed, with the exaggerated features, slow-talking, etc., and it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the people the characters were intended to mock. Sad to know many of those cartoons were created by adults for children.

Shrek is supposed to be Scottish. Or, at least, that's the accent Mike Myers was going for.
