Elton John: "Jesus was a super-intelligent gay man"

I really love the great musician Elton John, heart

I believe this will cause controversy in USA.... wink

Elton John: 'There's A Lot Of Hate In The World'
by Dotson Rader http://www.parade.com/cel...usive.html

In this week's issue of PARADE, Elton John talks to Dotson Rader about the transition from his raucous rock-star years to becoming a committed philanthropist. In the web exclusive below, the music legend opens up about the life-threatening downside of fame, his partner David Furnish and his take on Jesus.

Making early mistakes in love.
"I'd always choose someone younger. I wanted to smother them with love. I'd take them around the world, try to educate them. One after another they got a Cartier watch, a Versace outfit, maybe a sports car. They didn't have jobs. They were reliant on me. I did this repeatedly. In six months they were bored and hated my guts because I'd taken their lives and self-worth away. I hadn't intended to."

Love and drugs.
"Just about every relationship I ever had was involved with drugs. It never works. But I always had to be with someone, good or bad, otherwise I didn't feel fulfilled. I'd lost the plot."

It's all or nothing when it comes to drugs.
"For some people a gram of cocaine can last a month. Not me. I have to do the lot, and then I want more. At the end of the day, all it led to was heartache."

Why fame has lost its appeal.
"Princess Diana, Gianni Versace, John Lennon, Michael Jackson, all dead. Two of them shot outside their houses. None of this would have happened if they hadn't been famous. Fame attracts lunatics. I never had a bodyguard, ever, until Gianni died. I don't like celebrity anymore."

Remembering friends lost.
"Every time I sing 'The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes' onstage, I say that this is a song written about a time when people in America started getting AIDS and your president, Ronald Reagan, did nothing about it. I get boos. There's a lot of hate in the world."

His take on Christianity.
"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead."

He'll never stop helping.
"I set up my foundation because I wanted to make amends for the years I was a drug addict. People with HIV are still stigmatized. The infection rates are going up. People are dying. The political response is appalling. The sadness of it, the waste."

Finding new relationships.
"In 1993 I went back to my house in Windsor for a while. I wanted meet new people so I rang up a friend in London and said, 'Could you please rattle some new people together for dinner here Saturday?'"

An instant connection.
"I was attracted to David immediately. He was very well dressed, very shy. The next night we had dinner. After it, we consummated our relationship. We fell in love very quickly."

Keeping the love alive.
"Every Saturday for 16 years, we've sent each other a card, no matter where we are in the world, to say how much we love each other."

Communication is key.
"We've never been jealous. We talk about the sexual side of things, things that normally would have frightened me before."

Jesus was everything we are, so his comment makes sense...almost. Too bad he was just making the statement to stir the pot rather than bring Jesus' message to the masses. Ironic that Elton John - known for being the grande dame of bad behavior - chooses to whine about not knowing "what makes people so cruel."

Nobody knows Jesus' sexuality because he's been dead for over 2 thousand years and he never got a chance to write his autobiography.

Jesus was probably asexual. I don't remember hearing about him having any sexual thoughts whatsoever.

I loved how he boinked his partner the first night of their date...and if John is being so honest, how about fessing up that the hunk a hunk David would never have screwed him if not for the fame?

Elton is such a bore, but I do find it rather amusing that he never mentions that he was once married to a woman.

The problem that I am having with this thread is that there seems to be a subtext that asserts that it would be problematic if Jesus was queer. American Straight Culture tends to lay claim to any and every little positive thing anyway, but there are a few things that don't tend to be claimed by American Straight Culture - the divorce rate, sexual and physical abuse of women and children, Hate crimes, Poverty, Racism ... for some reason Straight Culture would have us believe that gay and lesbian Americans are responsible for these things, as well as People of Color and women being responsible. So, if you are offended that Elton is a windbag, let’s leave it at that, cause there ain't no question about that. But, if you think that Jesus as queer is offensive, I would invite you to seriously recalibrate your thinking and examine the most basic commandments of Christianity without all of the bull associated with obscure passages traditionally used to cast out people of difference and to raise up those "cleared" by other Bible passages.

Nah I'm not one who think Elton's a douche. lol A divo, yes.

I think I can understand why he would say this. Jesus could've been a lot of things, he could've been a man, a woman, straight, asexual, bisexual, homosexual, black, white, Native American, Middle Eastern, Asian, etc.

That's the beautiful thing about it though, Jesus could be ANYTHING, he's a mystery.

I can respect Elton for his comment about it.

Where are you getting that? All I'm seeing is comments along the lines of Elton being a batshit crazy bitchface who aims only to draw attention to himself.

You know, I'm not sure that Elton has really proven himself to be all that more batshit than any of the other batshitters out there ... which is part of why I felt this thread was somewhat disingenuous. Further, is it such an outrageous comment that the sole reason someone would make it is to draw attention to themselves? Or because they were a crazy bitchface? Or, could they really feel that Jesus, just possibly, may have been Queer?

But your point is well made and there is indeed nothing in this thread to support my statement. Please pardon me, orgers.

As I stated in my original post, Jesus was everything we are, so his comment makes sense...almost.

He just comes across as hypocritical and whiny in just about all his responses encapsulated in this brief article. Example...

"Every time I sing 'The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes' onstage, I say that this is a song written about a time when people in America started getting AIDS and your president, Ronald Reagan, did nothing about it. I get boos." - Of course, he's going to get boos when he words things that way. He's putting "ownership' of Ronald Reagan and a problem he contends Reagan created on the audience who paid to see him. He coud have easily said "Ronald Reagan" instead of "YOUR PRESIDENT Ronald Reagan."

First of all why is Elton crazy for saying this?? I mean does anyone here have prove of what jesus is or was or if it was even real to begin with? Some people say Jesus was a lunatic rambling on the streets, you know like a homeless guy on the train in the subway, i mean does anyone have proof that Jesus wasnt gay? Or is there a sex tape of him and some hooker from the day that is hidden in the tomb. I mean give me a break, this will cause controversy because religion is a form of lunacy to begin with. I mean i can say Jesus was a dog, prove me wrong? And dont show me pictures of a guy hanging from a cross that "say he is jesus" or picutres of some guy that looks like one of the Gibb Brothers who people say is Jesus. I mean most people think hes white, but then say he had to be dark skin because of that part of the world, then they say he was married, then they say he was a lunatic, then they say he was gay, then they say he is working in a 7/11, i mean give me a break with Jesus already and all forms of UNPROVEN religions and fairy tales

I agree generally speaking. I don't think Elton is crazy for saying it. I just think he's trying to be provocative and stir shit, and get his name in the paper, which is what he's made a career of, good or bad. I just kinda roll my eyes and move on, which is not the same as saying he's crazy.

I would agree with that, but Elton always says things, its just now there is media that prints everything everyone says as if its news and its not, its nothing relevant, people make it like Like Elton walked into a store and shot the clerk at the counter, i mean please already, this generation of TMZ and camera phones and all that crap, TOO MUCH INFORMATION to qoute the duran duran song, which fits more now. Personally this is why i love Elton, because he doesnt give a shit, and he never really did, and of course i love Elton for the talent and being one of the best all time artists

Neither you nor anybody else implied he was crazy just for saying that. If people would take time to read what others wrote before they responded, they'd know that. biggrin

I love Elton too, but he reminds me of some friends who are constantly making goofy/idiotic Facebook posts just to get a rise out of someone. And it ain't the media's fault - Elton knows exactly what he is doing, he knows that saying something like this will get him in the news. Which is precisely why he is saying it. He's just a big ol' attention whore, basically. But hey, that's ok.

i still love his music cool
