Black Day, Stormy Night… 1 Year Later; A Test of Faith

These lyrics very aptly describe the tragedy that occurred one year ago today. I lost my family and nearly my own life under the most violent and tragic of circumstances.

A few of you are familiar with my beliefs as a Jehovah’s Witness, and I sincerely thank those of you who have extended kindness to me. I firmly believe in the Bible’s promise of the resurrection, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life..." - John 5:28,29

This promise gives me the strength to endure these challenging times in which we currently live.

I have been told that our story is encouraging to anyone who is undergoing difficulties and I hope that it may bring comfort to any who may be dealing with their own struggles.

To my fellow Witnesses, I ask that you continue to endure... stay close to Jehovah, pray incessantly, keep up with your personal study and Bible reading - all of these things will keep you looking forward to the fulfillment of the scriptures.

JEHOVAH HEARS OUR CRIES FOR HELP - “The eyes of Jehovah are toward the righteous ones, and his ears are toward their cry for help." - Ps. 34:15 This was the title and theme text for the study article in the March 15th, 2008 Watchtower. It was Saturday May 10th and I had recently finished studying this encouraging information in preparation for our meeting the following day. I was trying desperately to recall this theme scripture as well as many others from the article... saying them over and over to myself as I was lying in my neighbor’s pasture. My foot was severed, my back was broken, and I was sitting amongst the debris of what used to be my home. I was praying intensely, begging that I was not the only one who survived...

Thank you, all. grouphug I thought today would be unbearably difficult to get through, but I guess since not a day has passed that I don't relive the whole thing anyway, it was somewhat easier than expected. My husband and I try to acknowledge it as a one year anniversary of bonus time together.

Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [a]

2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."
