The Jehovah Witness, YES JW appreciation thread

I would seriously like this thread to be about the positives of the people who participate in this faith. Please, no criticisms. Lord knows there have been countless JW threads in this forum. There are many beliefs and doctrines which I do not agree with, but like I said this isn't the thread where I want to voice them.

I did want to extend an appreciation to the folks here at Prince.org who are Jehovah's Witnesses and participate in this forum. You haven't always had the easiest time of it but I do believe that at the heart of most of these folks is a geniune desire to love and serve God and I respect that about you. smile So here's the thread you can get some love in hug

I completely respect and agree with their disassociation with pagan customs like christmas, birthdays, etc.
If only they would all turn towards Torah and start using a more accurate rendering of the Name of the Creator, they would be very close to being complete. -That and they need to work out that the angel Micha'el is not the same being as the Messiah- serious doctrinal error.
Other than that, they seem to take 'spreading the Word'as it were, very seriously, and I applaud them for that.

Very much mis represented and maligned here. There are many i respect and adore despite my issues with some areas of doctrine.

I don't know that much about JWs but from a few I get the impression they take great pride in being organized and sticking to their word. If they say something is getting done in such n' such of time, it's getting done in such n' such of time. They keep other Christians on their toes whether they admit it or not.

I miss Melody too. Heiress always seems to be level headed and balanced.
Rodman is very earnest and seems to be forthright and Uhope has been a great comfort in the past. there are so many more that I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

I have known many JWs that I love very much.

I know some beautiful ppl of this faith.

Personally speaking I never knew much about this religion before. It does get a bad rap some times because ppl do not fully understand it. I have family members that are of this faith. I can respect that they chose to follow this belief system. Each to their own. At the end of the day we are searching for ways to survive in this crazy world. Who am I to tell others the right and wrong way to do that.

I certainly don't ascribe to the JW faith - or any faith for that matter...

And I would have to say arguments in favour of JW faith by JWs are unconvincing here, to say the least.

However, that being said, they are no less convincing than any arguments I've heard from people of faith, and unlike many others, certain JWs try and try again, dilligently, to express their point of view, and they usually do it with patience and without running away when things get too hot.

I definitely sincerely admire the way JWs are willing to face their opponents and stand up for their beliefs.

How would you know it gets a bad rap because ppl dont understand it if you dont dont know much about it? It gets a bad rap because of all the mishaps with thier doctrine. Changing scripture time after time. Predicting Jesus' 2nd coming several times, and those are just the obvious blunders.
They are correct on some things, but on the important stuff, way off target.

I guess that is why I used the word before...meaning before I got to know more about the religion first hand instead of listening to ppl complaining about it.

I was not raised around religion as a child so I never had the background to judge what they believe.
I guess you feel that you do.
I just try not to judge others for their beliefs as I would hope they would have the same respect for me and what I believe.

I know next to nothing about this religion but would like to comment anyway. I know of a JW at work and he seems nice enough. And they haven't knocked on my door for a few years. And I appreciate that!

No I reckon you should just go for it. If someone's bonkers tell em! And it's easier to survive in this life if your belief is that there is no God yet goodness is still the right way to go. I never needed no book to tell me that it's nice to be nice.

I guess I chose to treat others as I wish to be treated myself. Just because we do not believe the same things, it does not make them "bonkers".

I don't have respect for religion. I find people that are fanatical about their chosen club are deluded. I do however respect good people. And they can be religious or not. I'm a strong believer that in life if you're born a c*** you'll always be a c*** regardless of your chosen beliefs.

The old saying that God helps those that help themselves is proven time and again. A very simple sentence with incredible depth.

And I don't think you're bonkers shanti. From the couple of posts of yours that I have read I actually think you're a nice person. Then again I thought that about Tom Hill and he ended up going to prison for stabbing someone.

The trouble I find with commenting on religion is that to fully understand it you've really got to study it. And there are a lot them! So fully unequipped I plow in with my opinions based on what I hear. And that unfortunately is normally negative press as this little world of ours loves to jump on the front page f***ups of people and organisations! Take poor old Sharon Stone (was it her?) and her comments on China. Probably a long'ish interview and the papers print one line of it, out of context, for the whole world to see. It's a terrible world we live in that we react so quickly and violently to words we see that do not tell the whole story.

So is Prince a proper JW then? Any idea why he chose that one from all the others out there? I'd like to say that it's made him dull but the trouble is is that I really like The Rainbow Children.

Well why don't you try staying on topic as the original poster who began this thread intended, and be nice to our fellow orgers here that happen to be of the JW faith? confused I swear, some of y'all behave as if you have ADD disbelief

That being said, I personally want to thank all of our JW orgers for partcipating in this forum and shedding light on their beliefs, and also participating as all around good sports in threads that aren't even PR related. Although this is a very large community with people of many different belief systems and we don't all agree, your presence here is appreciated and really helps add to interesting dialogue on politics and religion rose

I don't know why you would think I was bonkers. I am not a religious person. I just happen to respect others who chose a religion or chose not to be of a religious faith. You can have faith in all sorts of things besides religion.
Personally.. I would not care if you did think i was bonkers..doesn't change ME at all. I will still be me.

peace!

I agree with Ottensen..time to get back on the topic.
Appreciation for the JW peeps and JW orgers.

Well, Supa, this thread is REEKING with positive vibes!

The JWs I have interacted with have always been kind and willing to engage. You don't have to agree with the doctrine to treat the person with respect.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

OK, since I asked for no negativity can we please conduct this thread in said fashion? I was approached by someone in private who has major issues with the faith and they said they respected me but didn't want to participate and that is the way all this should be handled.
