Anybody have Sprint as a cell service?

I have Sprint and it's absolutely terrible and my phone blows. I really want to my plan after it's up, but for now I need a new phone.

For those of you that have Sprint, which phones would you suggest?

My brother used to have them. They are the worst. You might as well not have a cell phone. It ain't like you can actually contact the person you are trying to call that has Sprint as their service provider. I have At&t wireless as my service provider and a 3595 nokia phone. No complaints yet.

For those of you that have Sprint, which phones would you suggest?

Hummm, I don't know. Do you want a phone with a color screen so you can do all the internet stuff? Or do want something for your basic needs? A dude that worked at Best Buy told me that filp phones are garbage and that Motorola phones are crappy. Well, I used to have a motorola phone for a while and I didn't have any problems with it UNTIL I BROKE IT.

My roomie has Sprint and he HATES it. He constantly loses calls and gets crap reception most places. In fact, he can't even get reception in our house, he has to go to the porch to use the phone.

I have had T-Mobile (formerly Voicestream/Aerial) for YEARS. I currently have a samsung phone. I almost always have great reception, rarely lose calls and have a VERY affordable plan...

I had a bad time with Alltel. I was payin an extra 5 bucks a months for that stupid phone insurance, and two years later when my phone did break, they charged me another $35 as some kind of retarded service fee to replace it, on top of the, oh, $120 I had already paid them in insurance fees. To make matters worse, they replaced my souped up Motorola with a cheap ass Audiovox cuz they claimed my Motorla was no longer being produced.

I called about a month before my contract was set to expire, and told them I wanted to cancel. If you don't cancel when your contract is up they automatically renew it and lock you in for a couple more years. Well the dipshits at Alltel kept giving me the run around telling me they couldn't cancel my contract until it expired. So basically they are giving you no time frame to cancel. You have to wait till the last day of your contract to cancel, but techically, they will renew it after that day.

Finally, and this was the icing on the cake, they streched my contract out another two months. I literally had to do basic math with the dipshit on the phone to prove to them that they had billed me for 26 months, not 24 months which was my contract.

I switched and went to Sprint, and haven't had any trouble with them. I especially like the in-store payment machine. So far the reception I get has been fine in my area. I even went to Idaho and Nevada with my phone and it sounded perfect there too.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with them, but be careful cuz the other providers may not be much better.

Sprint is the worst ever. Though, I still have Sprint, go figure. I used to get dropped calls all the time, but I upgraded my software through them and since then everything's been okay. Contact Sprint and ask them if there is a software upgrade for your phone. It only takes seconds to do.

Also, you should report every dropped call because you don't have to pay for them. I think it is *4 that you dial to do that. I don't really remember.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I get dropped calls all the time!

Yeah, Sprint really sucks, but for right now I have to stick with them because of the fact that I don't have credit, and they're the only company that signed me, besides the $250 fee to get out of my contract.

I dont have Sprint , but Ive heard alot of bad things about there service. I used to have AT&T which I loved until I started having reception problems. I switched to NEXTEL, which i'm very happy with.

Suggestions:
You can terminate your contact early, which will cost u $$$
Or you can go with the lowest plan, and dont use the phone.
Then sign up for service with another wireless service.

Yep... you don't have to pay for any of the dropped calls! Definitely contact Sprint about upgrading your software though.... since mine was done I haven't had a dropped call since!

i've had sprint since last august, and haven't had any trouble with the reception. i get clear calls, pretty much anywhere. (except for out in the boon docks where no one gets reception.)

i have a sanyo camera phone and i love it. i take pictures of everything and send them to myself. i especially like it with my daughter cause i always have a camera with me, just in case she does something extra cute.

i did have problems with one thing, however. i live in a relatively small town in central nebraska. not real small, but not big city either. when i signed up i got a number from a big city so i could have free roaming. (which is pretty cool, btw! i went to NY and chicago and didn't worry once about paying roam fees!) my parents just got a sprint cell phone with a local number instead of the long distance number i had to get, and they were able to get the free roaming too. it took quite a few phone calls to customer service, but we finally got things straightened out so i could get the same deal my parents got but was told wasn't available for me.

so, we've had some bumps, but i like them. i especially like that i was able to upgrade my plan, though i've only been with them for a few months. and the service reps were real nice to me, in all the calls and emails, though i got a little nasty with them.

I've had Sprint for over 2.5 years, and I actually love their service! I have lived in NJ and OH, worked part-time in NYC, and travelled to many other states and had solid reception throughout. My parents recently took a trip to Louisiana, and they called me from my mother's Sprint phone while travelling through Indianola, Mississippi of all places!

That said, your phone choice can make or break your experience with Sprint. At one point, the provider tended to sell phones that looked good and were rich in features, but fell flat where real-world operation was concerned.

Do you have Vision service? If not, then I highly recommend the Nokia 3588i -- solid call quality and reception (this is the phone I am currently using, BTW). If Vision is important to you, then the Samsung A680 is a great phone. The Sanyo 4920 is not a bad model either, and I have heard good things about the Toshiba 4050.

BTW -- no, I don't work for Sprint. I just like to stay informed. Hope this helps...

I used Sprint at two different points, and had pretty good luck. With the exception of a month in San Fransisco with a lot of reception problems, I generally was pleased.

Most recently I used a Sanyo phone with a color display. Not sure what model it was.
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark

I have only had ATT. Now they're switching their old TDMA service to GSM - phasing out the old and phasing in the new - but I don't get reception anywhere on my university campus. However, with TDMA, I don't get reception in my house here or my parents' house. So I'm screwed either way. hooray!

thumbs up! The rule of thumb is this:

All servers are fairly equal given you have the right one for the area you are in! Each has their dead areas and such. When I lived in one area I found ATT to be awesome. ( I still feel their customer service is the best.) Here however Sprint is the only one that works in the city area I am in.

I think their customer service is horrendous. I had to deal with them soooo many times the first year I had a phone with them. My phone refused to work a lot of the times - for no reason - and whenever I called, they told me they couldn't help me because their systems were updating and I would have to call back in so many hours. ATT is a BIG company. They should have their shit figured out so they can help me despite this. Plus, it was not my phone that was fucked up. Something was wrong with their server so I was basically cut off and did not receive any service whatsoever. I was paying for days out of the month when my phone did not work.

They also refused to help me for the first six months I had the phone because I wasn't on the billing list (since my parents paid for, and still do, the phone and the contract). My mother called up numerous times to add me to their 'list' so I could get help from them when needed, but I was not put on the list until probably the tenth time she called in. Therefore, in the time I was not on the list, I could not receive help from them with my phone. (and believe me, everything went wrong with my phone and service.)

And then there's the matter of my phone number. I specifically requested a phone number in one area code, but they gave me a phone number in a small city right outside of the city I live in. The area code was still the same, but people were getting charged to call me from our city, and those who had basic basic basic local phone setups could not call me at all since it was outside the city and not considered 'local.' When I called ATT to change this, they told me that in order to receive a new number, I would have to change the billing address - so bills were sent to ME. Now this was a problem because as I mentioned before, I did not pay for my phone service. My parents - who live in another city - do. I don't know what would have they would have done if we only had one residence. Anyway, receiving a new number was like setting up a WHOLE new account. When I went in this year to get a new phone with ATT, I AGAIN specifically told them "I WANT A SANTA CRUZ NUMBER, NOT A FELTON NUMBER." The guy who was helping us told me there was no way he could tell if the number was Santa Cruz or Felton by looking at the screen. He would just have to take a chance, and if it did turn out to be a Felton number, I would have to call ATT and change the number. I asked him if they would make me change the billing address, etc - if they would make me go through the same bullshit I had two years prior. He said yes.

And guess what? Once I got my phone, I found out... I did get a Felton number.

Thanks a lot! That helps a lot. I wanted to get some opinions before going to the store because the sales people will push anything. I was considering both the Samsung A680 and the Toshiba 4050. One I'm really liking is the Sanyo VM 4500, and I've heard that the PM 8200 is pretty good, too.

Glad I could help.

I've heard some interesting things about the PM8200. Test that one carefully, as some people have complained about earpiece quality. At one point, I used the Sanyo 8100 (the 8200's immediate predecessor), and the incoming call quality was one reason I no longer use that phone.

If I may ask, what phone are you using now?
