I think a lot of people would feel uncomfortable dropping their guts in there - it would be very disconcerting being able to see everybody walking around you while you're trying to take a dump, even though you're aware that they can't see you. Oddly enough, it would probably feel more comfortable if they reversed the glass, except then you'd end up with crowds of people watching some poor blissfully unaware fool taking a dump.
