Barbeque

Do you prefer to use charcoal, because of the great flavor it adds to the food, or do you prefer to use propane?

For me, nothing beats the taste of a burger, steak or chicken cooked over hot coals... however, I love propane for the simple reason that I don't have to wait as long.

Anyone want to offer up good barbeque recipes?

Here's one that I make pretty much all summer long...

In a LARGE sheet of aluminum foil, add about 1- 1 1/2 pounds of red skinned potatoes, cut into bite sized cubes. Season with garlic salt, seasoned salt, black pepper and a dab of butter. Add chopped onions. Wrap it all up in the foil... cook on the lower rack of the grill for 15-20 minutes, if using propane, or 30-40 minutes if using coals. Stir. Now... Cook on the top rack of the grill if using propane, otherwise, keep a good eye and continue mixing it up periodically if using coals so that it doesn't burn. When the potatoes are tender, and NOT mushy, sprinkle with shredded cheese (I use Muenster, Colby Jack and Mozzerella)... cover and cook another 5-10 minutes.

I love to barbeque with charcoal! My favorite is at the end, after everything has been cooked, and you throw a bunch of mochi on the grill and put the top on... after a few minutes (preferably well into dinner), you bring 'em out and eat them with nori and soy sauce... mmm...
I mean, like, where is the sun?

I was a charcoal man for the longest time...but now I am propane and will never go back. I can CONTROL the temperature--so the steaks are never fucked up because I didn't put them on at just the right time with just enough charcoal...

Also, sprinklie this stuff liberally on each piece of meat--I cannot live without it:

Yeah... that is definitely one of the pros of cooking with propane! But... you still don't get the distinct flavor that charcoal brings to the food unfortunately. I wish we could have the best of both worlds when it comes to this.

That's why I stuck with charcoal for so long...and YET--I really don't taste that much of a difference. shrug

I do put lava rocks over the propane jets, though...not really sure if that flavors anything; I think maybe it does...

I don't know if the rocks add flavor or not... though, I used them to when I lived with E. I only used them because everyone said to get them... lol. Not really sure what they do. smile

I thought they were supposed to spread the flames around more evenly, but what I've noticed is that the flames are muffled on certain parts of the grill and not others...what am I supposed to do, carefully balance each lava rock as I put it in?

I don't get it...oh well...it taste real good. burger
