Goin' Back To Second City...!

Yesterday I made a very exciting decision - I decided to enroll in my second level of improv classes at Second City here in Chicago!

I'm not sure if I'm going to follow this through to where I'm performing for audiences or if I'm just gonna let myself enjoy it and let it help my writing (these improv classes are great for the imagination, and an active imagination is the enemy of writer's block), but I'm keepin' on with it and I have really good vibes about where it's going to take me.

For those of you who don't know what Second City is, it's the "mecca of Improv" where tons and tons of successful actors, comedians and writers have gotten their first big breaks. Alumni include most all of the original cast of Saturday Night Live (and many members of subsequent casts, including Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch), the cast of SCTV (which stands for Second City Television), Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, most of the cast and writers of The Daily Show, and tons of other noteable names.

It's cool to be doing theatre stuff again - I used to direct plays a lot and it was so much responsibility that I completely forgot about how much fun it is just to walk out on a stage and behave like an idiot for a while. So wherever this goes, hey, I'm having a blast. thumbs up!

woot! That's awesome!! I love to hear stories where people are following their dreams or just plain having fun with themselves.

I did theatre back in school and have considered improv classes myself, but I tend to have too much stage fright. I just get too shy. Not sure how I did it back then.

You met me after a few cocktails. Everyone's wittier when they're drunk.

Right? Just from what I know of her on the Org, I can tell she'd be shit-hot at improv! Carrie, you've got a great unaffected way of looking at things - you'd be a natural. smile

yeah, i did a lot of fun creative stuff in my previous life as a new yorker, though when i moved to chicago three years ago, i kinda went dormant because i was too busy trying to adjust to life in a new city...

...but now that i'm all comfy cozy with my surroundings, it's like oprah said, "...ol' sophia back now...you betta PASS them mashed potatas!" lol

well, i thought we'd all get together and do some group improv exercises at the show before the cure comes on stage, and go as long as we can before the goths start trying to set us on fire. eek
