I have a lot of friends who are offended by his schtick. They feel he's mocking and belittling black culture. Personally, I feel he's making fun of wannabees. I'm wondering how he score all of those interviews? I wouldn't think some of the people he's interviewed would have done it if they knew what they were in for. It has to be an ambush!! lol

I don't think Ali G is a particularly racist creation. He certainly is no Black and White Minstrel. His dialogue is carefully scripted and intended as a comic caricature of a certain sector of British youth subculture where phrases like “wicked”, “posse” and Ali G's ubiquitous “keep it real!” are trotted out as a substitute for joined-up conversation. That pompous authority figures with little or no conception of modern life and culture can be made to look foolish by their inevitable attempts to take Ali G's moronic posturing at face value are the but of the joke. Asking MP Tony Benn whether the welfare state was named so because it is 'well fair' or querying with a political activist in Northern Ireland why they were 'dissin' the RAC, are just a couple of funny moments in his interviews.

What seems to be confusing to some of Ali G's critics on the left is that his conversation is sprinkled with outrageous and politically incorrect language. But this is basically the crux of the joke with Ali G. Whether Ali G's interviewees will go along with his ignorant comments on the grounds that they do not wish to seem uncool or whether they will actually confront him—and if so, how. Many of course do not understand his questions and are in no position to form a rounded opinion. Fewer still seem to understand the various sexual references sprinkled throughout his speech, though Tony Benn did on one occasion memorably chastise him for his sexism, including his references to his girlfriends 'me bitches' and with some humour too!

By and large Ali G is well scripted and flawlessly acted by Sacha Baron Cohen. However his fame spread so rapidly, particularly here in the UK, that he had no unsuspecting victims left before long willing to be interviewed. As such, the character of Ali G has become a parody of a parody. Whilst the interviews were humorous and original, the Ali G film Ali G in da house and the single 'Julie' with Shaggy were less so, suggesting that the joke has now been overplayed.

Borat is very funny, but so awful too, did you see the nude photos of his wife? She was obviously Down Syndrome - it was shocking, but kind of touching too, because he was showing the photos to people with great pride. I kind of didn't really know what to think of this, how about you?
