As they say in the south, these "healthly" women were/are extremely attractive. Somehow, certain folks got fooled into thinking that this, and only this, was attractive...  
One thing i'll say for Beyonce and J-Lo, in terms of the public, they've helped to bring back an appreciation for a more full figured woman...  
As far as i'm concerned, they've always been attractive and happen to be my preference. However, there's something for everybody.
