Anyone on THE PILL? Ihave a question

Have you ever skipped the "sugar pills" to skip your period? I've never done that before but am going on vacation the day i'm supposed to get it (and me got some heavy flow!) an someone told me just to keep taking the white pills and obviously this will skip my period...is this safe?

it's fine to do that every so often. i've done it a few times. apparently there's this new pill called seasonale or some such that gives you nine weeks before you get your period. maybe you'll want to check that one out.

Okay finally something I KNOW about. To answer your question you can definitely skip your placebos or sugar pills to avoid having your period. All you do is start a new pack on the day you're supposed to take your placebos. Yes, this is safe! No I'm not a doctor, but my dad is one and I've asked myself. This is convenient if you're going on vaction/honeymoon, or damn it, you just don't feel like being bothered. One year I swear I had like 6 cycles. The only thing I suggest is not to do it two months in a row, I experienced spotting with this. What pill are you on?

I have tried this, but didn't work for me sad just bled anyway and screwed it all up for the next few weeks too. Hope it works for you though, maybe try it before you go away first if you still have time?

My two former roommates used to do this ALL of the time. They had occasional cramps but nothing else. Dunno which color pills they skipped, though... I would never do it myself...

I've heard that it may actually be healthier to skip periods once in a while. I guess women are having too many periods now days because of longer life spans and not as many pregnancies. And periods are starting at younger ages too!

Yes, it's safe. The FDA has now approved dosing where you only take the sugar pills and have a period 4 times per year, and that's basically just because there hasn't been enough research to say that never ever having one is safe.

BUT, the birth control injection Depo-Provera causes periods to completely stop for most people, and there have been no reported problems from that. I think Depo is awful for other reasons, but not having periods: thumbs up!

I had several problems with it, including the total death of my sex drive, but the biggie was depression. . .nobody told me that this was a possibility, and I was borderline suicidal at times. . .it was like the sky cleared when I went off of that damn stuff.

But I know there are people who love it. shrug

I'm on orthotricylene lo and it made me gain weight like crazy. I started taking it in February 2003 and since then I've put on 15 lbs (which doesn't seem like a lot but I'm 4'11"!) At least it distributed itself evenly... like tackam, my sex drive disappeared for a few months. But now I'm back on track!
