in loring park i've been on nodding acquaintance with the cutest little black squirrel (yes black fur) for the past few years (bribing him with peanuts when i walk by). this morning on the way to work i saw him dead in the road.



please people drive safely and stop for animals. thanks for listening

awww, this is sad.

We have a lot of these little guys in Detroit...they're SO cute...much smaller than red squirrels and they have the cutest faces.

I was driving just outside of town yesterday on a lonely county road when suddenly darting out onto the road and streaking straight for my car was a rabbit. I couldn't swerve in time or anything. I just hoped he would veer off towards the side of the road to save his own life. That wish was soon put to pasture as I heard the BONE CRUNCHING SOUNDS OF MY TIRES FLATTENING THE INNARDS of this poor defenseless creature.

Gave me the chills for another mile down the road!

My older brother used to live down along the Mississippi in Iowa, and there was one black squirrel in his neighborhood as opposed to the numerous gray squirrels that inhabited the area. He nicknamed him "Lucifer".

There was a baby bunny on my mom's lawn a few weekends ago...it was SO cute and SO tiny...it seriously was the size of a hamster.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a black squirrel before....

well, he was a cute little fellow. hopefully he didn't suffer much. it's just, i made a point of looking for him whenever i walked through the park. he usually came running if i tossed him some peanuts.

i know it's sometimes impossible to avoid hitting the little animals. they do tend to pop right out and run right under the wheels of cars. ok thanks for listening

That's too bad. I've seen a couple of black squirrels in Loring Park, I wonder if I ever saw your squirrel about before?

I was never much of a fan of little black squirrel, and I completely disagree with his politics, but I am here to express my condolences. I hope he is not longer suffering and in a better place.

reminds me: i think there's a family of rabbits that lives in this little garden down the street from my apartment--almost every time i walk up towards this bridge/freeway overpass, there'll be at least one or two baby rabbits runnin for cover when they hear me walkin towards the bushes.
