I notice that The Fly is being shown again on British TV tonight. I like this movie quite a lot particularly the character of Seth Brundle played by the always wonderful Jeff Goldblum. Dozens of movies have explored the character of the lonely, youthful genius with the soul of a poet, but none have succeeded as well as this one. And it does it in the most goriest of fashion that I have ever seen in film! "I'll hurt you if you stay." is in my opinion of the most moving declarations of love ever to grace the silver screen. Goldblum delivers this line with heartfelt sincerity as he slowly transforms into the monstrous fly. And some people think Sleepless in Seattle is a romantic movie. I feel sorry for them. Watching Seth's slowly growing madness (but what a focused madness - "I seem to be struck by a disease with a purpose, wouldn't you say?") is such a treat. Details like putting his discarded body parts in his medicine cabinet (while talking to them, no less) and chewing on his glove even though his fingers are secreting liquid tell us so much about him. Gory yet fascinating!

Secondly, is the theme deals with the issue of teleportation. Considering the dangers as highlighted in The Fly would you still be brave enough to be teleported should the opportunity arise in the future? Personally, I find it a scary idea unless it's guaranteed to be 100% safe after much trial and error. Intriguing as it is to me.

Any thoughts and opinions on both The Fly and teleportation?

Well, the movie made some impact on me when i watched it as a kid, did loose some sleep over it

Teleportation ? Hmm according to a chapter in this book, it's impossible.

On the other hand, recent articles (BBC) show it can be done on atomic level. I think they're trying to work their way up from there.

Great movie, I dont like flying, so I guess teleportation is out of the question for me.

This is one of the saddest love story to be put on film. Brundle's story is so terrifying!!!

I really enjoyed this film as I enjoy Cronenberg's work.
