This makes me so sad, and mad SYRACUSE, N.Y. June 16, 2004 — A judge Wednesday sentenced Timothy Lucie to 50 years to life in prison for raping his 11-year-old daughter, who later hanged herself.
Lucie, 46, was convicted last month of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and endangering the welfare of a child. He was accused of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old daughter, Valerie, in the shower at their Syracuse home Sept. 30. Hours later her 8-year-old brother found her hanging from her bedpost by a dog collar and leash in what police said was an apparent suicide. A furniture business owner, Lucie confessed to the rape after a six-hour interrogation on Oct. 13. He then recanted as police prepared to put the confession on videotape. Lucie claimed his confession was coerced by police, who he said threatened to arrest his wife and take away his four younger sons if he didn't admit to the sexual attack. He ruined his daughter! What an absolute tragedy... She was 11 years old.. she didn't get a chance to live and enjoy her life..

I actually hope he GOES TO JAIL and does not get the Death Penalty. I have a family member who was in prison and he told us what happend to those type of people. Truly sad. I suffered through some shit as a kid, and for years I hid behind a sick sense of humour to cope with it. How could an adult do this to a defenseless child?? I really don't understand it. These kind of things scar you, no doubt about it, and in this case it led to something even worse. Can you imagine how bad the abuse must've been for a CHILD to take her own life??? Scratch that, I don't want anyone to imagine it
My girlfriend has two children, and I've become quite attached to them. The idea of anyone laying a hand on them fills me with intense fury. I no longer comprehend how I could make the jokes I once did, even if it was to hide my own pain. Children are such a joy, and I really have no tolerance for the person who could do this kind of thing. Alf brought up the death penalty, and its understandable how folks could feel that this is the solution. Some feel rehabilitation is possible, but I don't know. In the case of children and young teens who engage in abusive sexual behaviour towards other children, this is entirely possible (in fact, there have been cases of these children being rehabilitated. A child acting in this manner is doing it for very different reasons than an adult). I have my doubts that an adult could be "fixed" however. At that point I believe the damage is just too deep. An infection of sorts has seeped into their brains, and eaten away at their souls. This may sound melodramatic, but I really don't think it is. This person becomes the equivilant of a rabid dog. The sickness has spread and there is only one way to prevent it from harming anyone else.

I feel just as sorry for the guy as I do the kid. Something really compelling had to be going on in this guys head to drive him to do something like that. I don't know what makes people become that way, but people like that will spend the rest of their life suffering for it, in addition to those they assult. | |
