Goodbye London, hello California!

.

My nine months here are up! I'm hauling my ass outta here on Thursday! Do you guys remember when I first started talking about applying to study abroad in fall of 2002? And when I received notice that I was coming here in April of 2003? And when I finally made it here last September? Right off the bat I met up with JDINTERACTIVE, Anji, giotto, and Lleena - some of the best orgers on this site, bar none. I've gone through some shit weather that I thought would never end (and I've never been colder or wetter before in my life), and some English courses that were similar to HELL. But I think I've drank my fair share of booze. scared my fair share of Londoners, and seen more than enough to warrant these part nine months a success.

woot!

I'd like to thank everyone who expressed excitement/concern/joy in my experiences, and I'm sad to leave the London orgers behind (especially after the party last Saturday!) But rest assured, I'll be back in December - I already have my return ticket. I'll be spending the summer in sunny California, doing classes and eating burritos and laying on the beach. And I won't be doing it alone, as I'm dragging my wonderful Welsh boyfriend back with me for the next three months. So I definitely won't be going home empty handed!

I'm sad to leave this all behind - we're going to spend the next three days packing, packing, and more packing, plus St Pauls, Westminster Abbey, London Dungeon, and the London Eye (where my trip started with giotto waaaay back in September, believe it or not!) But I just wanted to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone on here for making the transition easier than expected.

grouphug

And I'll be seeing you Californians in FOUR DAYS! eek

I want to come back after I've graduated! I have no idea how difficult getting a visa will be, though. I know the US is strict as hell... dunno about the UK...

the US is renowned for being virtually impossible to get some sort of working visa, unfortunately (I would have LOVED to come to the US for longer) but the UK is really good for that and it's somewhere I've wanted to go since I was a little girl...

you can apply for a UK working holiday visa up until your 31st birthday and it's for 2 years...check out www.workingholidayguru.com if you want any more info cool hope it works out for you!!

Awesome, thanks for the link - I just don't feel like sticking around the US after I graduate. I need some air, so coming back to London sounds tempting... anyway good luck on your two years here! You'll have a great time!

Man, wish it was easy to get such a visa for my wife. I'll be going the other way, back to England from here, Thailand. Has been around 15 months so it's time.

Sounds like u had a great time in London Natsume. I'll be heading there when I get back to meet up with friends I haven't seen in over a year.

Visas are a pain, aren't they? We had to go through so much red tape to get a student visa for my boyfriend to study with me this summer. Not to mention the money!

doh!

The US is a royal pain when it comes to letting people in. My dad had lived there for about thirty years - married a citizen, had three kids, and has a great job - but barely got his citizenship a few years ago. Good luck to you, hope it'll work out for your wife!

Thanks. I'm ok - I have a 1 year multiple entry visa. I think it'll be a long time before my wife goes to the UK unfortunately. I'll be without her for 6 weeks when I go back in July. sad

It will be good to see my folks again though. smile

I like that last pic of yours - your eyes are huge! big grin
