I'm thinking of going back to school....

But I'm scared shitless! I'm not a school person whatsoever but I need to get at least my bachelors degree. Is it true that school is easier when you're an adult?? I freak the fuck out and automatically think I'm gonna fail sad

Anyone taking classes now that's been out of school for at least 6 years?

Eventually yes. Brown will pay for everything if I pass. And I've been looking at other colleges in Boston for jobs and most require bachelor degrees. My job now is a piece of cake...not stressful at all so I think this may be the time to start school again. I'm tired of Providence, I wanna live in Boston and work there.

Go for it Carrie. One of the best things I ever did for myself was getting my degree.
The classes themselves werent all that hard for the most part. What was really tough for me was studying at home.So many distractions and easy to put off.
Good luck to ya...

I can study at home, it's just the damn reports. And if I have to get up to do a presentation I'll die.

Yup. I almost fainted in speech class once.

When I was a member of a hospitals & institutions panel.Once a month I would have to speak for one hour in front of anywhere from 100 - 400 people.Talk about brutal.
What worked for me was I have a deep voice. So I would project throughout the whole crowd commanding there attention and at the same time drowning out anyone who may be talking.I also would never look anyone in the eye.Just kind of glance over once in awhile keeping my focus on something in the back of the room above eye level.
Also try not wearing a mini skirt etc... if you have to speak.Cause if you do pass out the whole class is gonna no you inside and out.lol later...

Carrie,
I’ve been out of school for well over 15 years & just recently went back for my bachelor’s degree….. It’s very cool that Brown will pay for your schooling, but there are a few things to consider:
• Will they let you take class during the work day
• How long will it take you to graduate (do you currently have any college credits?)

Depending on the answer(s), you might always want to look in the area and see if any of the local colleges provide a program of accelerated learning for working adults. That is what I’m doing. It is based on collaborative learning, (which limits the amount of individual presentations you have to do) so there is a study group component that meets outside of class each week. By meeting once a week with my study group & once week with my class, I’ll have 57 credits in 19 months.

Going to school (or in my case, finally completing) is definitely worth it…… If only I done it when I was younger, I’d be much better off today.

By the way, I’m from New England & I’m NOT bald

Do it. nod

Iam. I'm $119.00 short. But when I get it, I'm reserving my seat for this Master's Degree program.

Again, do it.

lol on the bald comment!

I'm going to meet with someone in career services to see what I should do. I have an associates already so that's out of the way. And I would have to take night classes somewhere. It's going to take me a while but I already know this. Especially if I only take one class a semester. Thanks for the advice, I'm gonna write this stuff down and ask lots of questions!

Can I get peed on too....????

Carrie, I know that you're in RI (not sure where)

The program I am in does meet in a New London location, so if you're in Western RI you might want some info (you can org note me if you want it).

I'm also going to talk with the progarm adminstrators because I know that this effort has been started at other academic institutions

I'm looking at going back to school, too.

To teach!

My sister-in-law found an ad for the local middle school needing a math teacher. Since my current job is going nowhere, and I have the degree and teaching license, I really need to do this. I'm putting in my application, etc. tomorrow, and then start looking for other math teacher jobs in the area. biggrin
