The two things that have stuck in my mind:

In high school, a beloved english teacher wrote as part of my recommendation,

"His smile is legend."

That was the first I've ever heard that, and have been complimented on my
smile many times since.

THEN

Last December, after the Family Jamm, I got up the nerve to talk to Wendy Melvoin.
I told her I've had a long history of Idol Worship, but in all my years the only
Fan Letter I had written was to her and Lisa. Actually, I wrote to them at 3 different
points in my life -- after Parade, in 1990 after eroica, and in 1998 after Girl Bros.
I never tried to send any of the letters. I thanked for all the gifts they had
given me through their music.

Then she said, "No, thank you. To hear that it means so much is really a gift
to me." Then she stroked my chin with her thumb and said, "you're a good boy."
It was such a beautiful, magic moment. I'll always treasure that.

When I was visiting vegas last week, one of the nights I was having a lousy time at the bar, so I left my friends early and walked outside to pick up a taxi back to my room.

This really cute taxi driver pulled up and asked me if I needed a ride. He was about my age and right up my alley. Turns out he was "family" too, and we had a really nice talk the whole way back.

Long story short, he gave me his number, and it totally put a smile on my face and made my night...

a few weeks before my grandmother died she said to me "bless your heart, because you are such a sweetheart". That meant more to me than any of those nickel and dime hoes that tell me I'm such a stud, and look great in my bugle boy jeans.

Well…. The most recent thing that really touched me was when Ian told me (with all the pain and sadness that has been surrounding him lately) that I was his reminder of joy, his “memory of joy” … to know that I can still make him smile, even at the hardest time in his life is something very precious to me.
