I thought that I would draw your attention to a petition that has been set up online to appeal to Granada Studios for the return of actor Chris Finch, who plays nurse Karl Foster, to long-running soap Coronation Street.

There you will see that the petition is gathering significant momentum since its conception just over two weeks ago with, at the time of writing, over 550 signatures.

The petition has already received coverage in the Bolton Evening News, due to the locality of Chris Finch, who is a native of the Bolton borough, Bromley Cross:

Consequently, due to the local significance, we believe that the aspiration to get Chris to return would be of great interest to your readers.

The idea for the petition was at first conceived in the Digital Spy Forums, a website dedicated to allowing people to air their views on any aspect of the entertainment world, including soaps. The thread, that dedicates itself to the continuing storyline of Todd Grimshaw’s (Bruno Langley) coming out process and his relationship with Karl Foster (Chris Finch), is over 750 pages long and has over 19000 posts.

We believe that the current plot is of great importance, and recent evidence of this is the high profile attention the media has given to the ongoing storyline.

Positive televisual images of male/male relationships are few and far between, especially during the primetime slot that Coronation Street maintains, and whilst the current storyline is highly sensational, the following months before Bruno Langley’s departure are a perfect opportunity to keep such topical issues in the public domain.

We believe these months should see the return of Karl. Chris’ portrayal of Karl has been excellent, and he has a real onscreen chemistry with Bruno that, we believe, has even surprised the writers. Supporting Chris’ return is an ideal opportunity to support an up-and-coming local talent in his quest for a successful acting career.
