I was thinking about taking a course in computer repair... ...but I don't think I should spend my time taking a course in something unless a job in that field would pay $40,000 per year (nothing to sneeze at for a single person where I live). How much does computer repair pay?
Another concern is that I'm what they call "highly functioning autistic" and learn at a slower pace than others. So that kinda makes me nervous. If it doesn't fit, it's ugly anyway.

You should practice on Marrk's computer! It went belly-up!
That sounds like a promising career choice, LaCoyta!

I think that if I started learn to fix computers maybe it'd help my low self esteem. But I'm still worried about my autism. If it doesn't fit, it's ugly anyway.

Hey! It's computer repair, not rocket science! What's the worry? If that's the way you are, that's the way you are. Autism is no reason to not do it.

go for it !!!
i believe strongly in learning ... it may just be good for ya to learn about ... even if u decide later that u hate it !!! Computer repair is one of those businesses that there has to be a need for people with that training ! ... while i certainly am not a computer guru ... the computer store where i regularly shop seems to be doin really well ... I also believe - choose somethin u think u will like .. and find ways to push yourself ! ... u will be making $40,000 in no time ... lets face it ... if after 3-12 months , u aint happy with it ... u might want to rethink the choice as a job down the line--- but at least u are making some $$$$ .... alot of times u can juggle the job alil ... work harder or smarter ... and make more $$$ ... thats what i did recently with my work - I now come in later in the day ... and i find i get alot more done ... (when the phones arent ringing off the hook and diverting my attention !!! ) ... again - somethin that i can alter (my hours a lil)... everyone is different ... and every job has some bad sides to it ... put on a happy face and seize the day !!!

What are the symptoms? There's loads of info out there about it, I just did a search for "highly functioning autistic" and got loads of interesting looking results. Sadly, due to the firewall here, I can't get in to any of them to check out if they are as informative as they look. You'll get much better search results using www.dogpile.com rather than google. Hey!! More often than not, people who have illnesses like yours are hidden geniuses!!! My son has ADHD and Tourettes Syndrome and also Asperges Syndrome, which is in the autism family!! Anyway, once he has grasped something at school, then theres no turning back for him and when its question and answer time in classes, he comes up with the most complex questions that any other child his age would never think of!!!! He is also very creative and has made some really cool things in woodwork classes!!! In fact, people like u can really excell in creativity and technical things!!
Hey, check out the film Rain Man, starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, if u need convincing!!
