Good Fortune or Lack Thereof

Have you ever had a streak of good/bad luck and asked yourself what the hell you did to deserve your good fortune, or lack thereof?

And, is it just me or does it seem like when it rains it pours... either good or bad?

That's the way it usually works, but you never get more than you can handle...

For example, I got five parking tickets last week, I think the meter maid is out to get me!!

I think luck is to some extent down to the person you are. Pessimistic people will ignore lucky situations when presented with them, while positive people are more likely to grab opportunities with both hands, reap the rewards and appear lucky.

I'm not convinced some peeps are just more lucky than others naturally. I think people who appreciate good luck when it comes their way usually prosper and are in turn, considered lucky people.

If you lose or something doesn't go your way, you can blame it on having a bit of bad luck. That doesn't neccesarily means you didn't have bad judgement or that your feelings were wrong. It makes people have a better self-image if they can blame luck for what happens to them.

People who think they are lucky tend to take advantage of it. I think perhaps unlucky people tend to concentrate so much on their bad luck that they cannot recognise good luck when it presents itself.

This can become a vicious circle where people heap more misfortune on themselves by adopting a negative attitude.

Yes!!!

When I was 19, in the span of 2 weeks....

  • I broke my ankle.
  • A drunk driver plowed into my parked car in the middle of the night, totalling it.
  • I got laid off from my job
  • My boyfriend broke up with me

I've had similar shitty streaks and one thing I have learned: It's useless to ask "why me". There is never an answer to that question.

On the otherhand, I have had great streaks as well. Last summer I won about 5 grand in a matter of 3 months while playing Bingo!

Whenever bad things happen to me, I never believe it's because I deserve it or because I've done something bad but when good things happen to me I totally believe that it's because I do deserve it. Especially for good things I do in life nod

Hmmm... interesting and I can agree with that, to an extent.

I was just thinking that when luck has stricken' me (is that right?... anyway...)it seems to just flood in and I wonder... why?! Why is this happening to me, of course I also then think... when is something going to happen and I crash and burn... lol . And, the same when it appears that everything is going wrong... I then wonder, what did I do to deserve this?

Very good post... thank you!

Weekly Consciousness Tune-Up
May 16th– May 22nd, 2004

It’s Darkest Before the Dawn

For most, the last month has not been easy. And this week will be no different. However, not being easy can be a good thing.

The kabbalists teach that within everything that happens, there is always the seed of mercy. In other words, all chaos leads us to good.

So if your life is engulfed in darkness and chaos, remember that the chaos is there for the sole purpose of helping you to reveal Light.

Imagine if everything always looked good and you never experienced any problems. It might seem like a tempting concept, but the truth is, without challenges to overcome, you would get bored. Think back to the times in your life when you felt the greatest sense of accomplishment? Was it when things were handed to you on a silver platter, or when you had to struggle to break through something?

It is the nature of this world that anything worthwhile is concealed at first. Like a fruit picked from a tree, the more bitter it seems at first, the sweeter it will be when it ripens.

So, when you experience chaos, the kabbalists say there are two steps you must take to reveal the Light hidden within it:

1. Embrace the chaos. Know that it is a blessing designed to lead you to the good. Trust that the Light will take care of you…and...

2. Look within and take responsibility for being the cause of the chaos. Try to figure out and see what you did in this lifetime to bring it about.

Doing only the first step will not keep you from repeating the mistake. And the second step doesn't take into consideration the importance of trusting the Light. You need to incorporate both steps in order to transform your chaos into Light.

It's a universal truth that chaos will ultimately lead you to the good. It is always darkest right before the dawn. And the greater the darkness, the more Light there is to be revealed.

The faster you recognize and accept hardships and all chaotic circumstances as opportunities for spiritual elevation, the quicker the pain and doubt will disappear. You alone determine the rate at which your turmoil and pain passes.

Beware: The ego will constantly attempt to slow this whole process down to a sluggish crawl by concealing the order and the cause of the chaos that’s in front of your eyes.

This week, when you find yourself overcome with feelings of doubt or panic or with thoughts of doom, the letters of this 72 Name will reveal the Light that your chaos is concealing.

All the Best,
Yehuda Berg

My sister went threw a ROUGH couple of years...

*She left and divorced her husband/nasty divorce...

*She bought a car, and had it stolen a couple of months later...

*She got the car back, only to have it stolen once again a week later...

*Her son was diagnosed with ADHD...

*Her purse was stolen...

*She was entrusted to watch over my other sisters dog while she went skiing
for the weekend. Long story short...the dog got loose, and got hit by a car and died.

I give her credit though, she fought through all that and things are looking better
for her now...(knock on wood)
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

It can certainly appear that when things go bad that it's just never gonna stop. However, that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger... or whatever they say... smile

But, what about when good fortune rains upon you? Do you ever wonder why?

Sometimes you think this is too good to be true etc, something is bound to go wrong, but It depends on what it is, and if you've worked hard for something rather than have it thrust upon you out of the blue, It's easier to accept.
