I rented The Road to Perdition on Friday. Being a Tom Hanks film, I expected no to enjoy it but was pleasantly surprised to an extent. The movie had convincing performances and a solid plot. What I felt the film lacks though not fatally, is human warmth, something to engage us emotionally, rather than just aesthetically and viscerally. It's rather like watching a drama enacted at the bottom of a calm ocean or walking through an art gallery in which panels from a comic strip have been turned into oil paintings.

The Road to Perdition is also familiar stuff to. Those who have seen both Witness and Leon together with this film will be aware of what I'm talking about.

I really liked the film. nod Was expecting it to be duff because the reviews weren't outstanding. But it was very atmospheric & well acted - only bit I thought was poo was the ending, which was typical saccharin hollywood stuff.

Anxiety

i just watched that HBO movie "the reagans" last night - i don't see what the big whoop over it was. nancy reagan came off like an evil cooze most of the time, but she had her decent moments and crap, who doesn't want to be portrayed by judy davis? ol' ronnie was portrayed pretty lovingly - all the negative stuff they put in the flick was stuff we already knew, i don't know what was supposed to be so "provocative" about it. i thought it was as positive as it was negative. for a TV movie, it was pretty decent.

My favourite movie of last year along with Return of the King. Bought it on DVD.

Girl With a Pearl Earring was pretty good, too...but not nearly as good as LIT.

I watched Breathless last weekend - a classic of French new wave cinema. It's dated slightly but worth looking at if your interested in film history.

I watched In Cold Blood and Blowup this afternoon, and both of those are fairly classic films as well, though I actually prefer Brian De Palma's remake of Blowup called Blow Out...

It was a cold and rainy day today, so a few friends and I went and saw Mean Girls and Shrek 2. Both were very enjoyable. I love Tina Fey. I laughed quite a bit today.

Shrek 2 ~ started out slow (2 scenes where everyone is showing their boredom isn't good cinema), but quickly picked up and ended nicely.

rented School of Rock ~ nod thumbs up!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
