The Power Went Out at Work Today! We have been having some really bad stormy weather here lately (thunderstorms, tons of rain). This afternoon around 3:30-4:00 pm, my co-workers and I noticed the sky getting pitch black, and the wind picking up, so we knew that a rainstorm was coming. Sure enough, it began to pour rain; it was raining so hard, we could hear it on the roof.
At 4:20 the power went out, we couldn't do anything but talk on the phone. We do have backup at work which is supposed to help in a blackout situtation, but the lights never did come back on (although they did flicker a few times). We were left totally in the dark, except for two spotlights on the wall that were all the way across the room, which didn't really help much. We finally left at 4:50, since we really couldn't do anything else that day anyway. Has anybody else ever experienced a power outage at their place of employment? Feel free to share. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you. | |

Back when I was working at IBM, there was a very bad storm that went through southeast MN and took out all the power in the Rochester area. We had to sit around for a good two hours in the dark before management finally said we could leave.
Not too long after that, the power in the plant went out again. I wasn't there for that one, but I heard a funny story about it. Seems our maintenance guy was working on one of the computers, gave up on trying to get the program to run, gave the 3-fingered slaute (ctrl-alt-del), and at that very moment the power went out everywhere. I would have DIED to see the look on his face after he did that! NCC2012... your local Trekkie. =/\=
