Rolling Stone...the integrity is overwhelming

The newest issue of Rolling Stone features a Prince cover and article/interview.
Is it entirely possible for their collective nose to get any browner?
I don't seem to recall them so publicly pulling for the short, purple man while he was swimming in his self-created pool of oblivion (meaning The Rainbow Fiasco and C.R.A.P.).
Of course, I realize that Rolling Stone has never been accused of having any integrity whatsoever...

IMO, this is what happens when a publication that used to have real writers with integrity and voiced their opinions (whether people agreed with them or not) turn into every other rag that sucks corporate cock.

Rolling Stone is in the business of selling magazines. What's on the cover of a magazine goes a long way toward determining that magazine's sales. Before Prince realized that he better refill his coffers before it was too late and put himself back in the public eye, Rolling Stone would've been insane to put him on the cover. And was there really anything to pull for regarding The Rainbow Children and N.E.W.S.?

Regardless of who was writing for the mag and when, the cover was always reserved for a flavour-of-the-day who would shift units. Rolling Stone is not (and never was) a not-for-profit venture.

I'm sure they were selling magazines for the first 10 years and somehow making money or it wouldn't still be here. They actually cared about music and reporting what was happening, what was upcoming and reviewed albums with a clue (even if you didn't agree with them, they had an original thought). Now, when they do talk about music, either it's gossip or it reads like a PR firm or a press release from the the record company.

Flavour-of-the-day is one thing but with it's bullshit lists and it's copy-blurb format (with less full articles) and everything else it's done to update it's format, it's clear that music has taken a back seat to pop culture.

Yeah, I'd probably agree with you there, but they're just going with what the market demands.

may as well call this current issue a collector's item, cuz more than likely that'll be the last time they put an actual music-related person on their cover.

eek

All of their reliability went out the window when the ex-editor of FHM took over. They had Jennifer Love Hugetits on their cover for crying out loud!
