Sleep?! SEX?!?!?! Are you people NUTS?! Those things and chocolate are the only reasons to live!

Matt's gonna kill me, but I think hair cleaning/conditioning products are overrated. Shampoo is soap. It strips oils and gunk off of hair. Conditioner is oil that you put back on your hair to make it feel good after stripping the dirty oil off with the shampoo. I like froofy hair products because I like feeling like I'm spoling myself and I like stuff that smells good, but all of the claims on the bottles are bullshit. Total and complete bullshit. Dollar store stuff would work just as well.

I think the guitar is overrated. That's not to say I don't love a good guitar player. . .c'mon, I'm a Prince fan. . .but it seems like all of the music in the western world has been so guitar-centric for SO LONG, and I don't think the instrument is that fantastic. It's just relatively easy to learn. C'mon, people. 5 guys on stage with different guitars shouldn't qualify as a band.

Religion is tragically overrated.

Television. Few people claim to love it 'cause it's not cool, but most people place it pretty highly in their lives, in terms of a time priority. A habit I'm always trying to move further away from. Somebody tell me how to convince my husband to get rid of the damn thing? I told him I wanted to ditch cable, and we got Tivo instead. rolleyes

Super Squeaky Cleanliness. You really don't have to shower every day. Prolly 4 or 5 times a week is fine (when it's cool out--when it's hot, I'm happy to bathe every few hours). You can wear clothes more than once before washing them. It's ok for floors to be a little dirty; they're used for walking on and that's about it. One ought to keep their hands as clean as humanly possible to stay healthy. Other than that: overrated.

Body hair removal. Why? I mean, I do it, but I piss me off at the same time. disbelief

Friends. Yeah, the tv show, but I mean the people. Sure, have a few really great ones over the course of a life, but they are extremely time consuming and tend to cause more grief than anything else in the long run. Keep 'em to a bare minimum. Choose carefully. And be a great one so that you can hang on to the ones who are worth it.

Cars. Four wheels. Goes. Is it really worth it to pay for "better" than that? I think if more people actually looked at what their cars cost (including interest) and how many hours (years?!) of their lives they have to give to have a "nice" one, most people would drive Geo Metros. I really believe that.

use creame of nature shampoo or any other brand that does not use sodium laureth sulfate or similar ingredients. those shampoos actually clean your hair and, unless you have audry 2 hair like me (translation: the driest hair to walk the planet), you won't need a conditioner. Sodium laureth sulfate is the devil in disguise.

i thnk simon and grafunkel are overrated. They have a few good songs, but most of their stuff is just them whining and moaning.

Case

95% of TV
The new "Star Wars" movies
Dave Matthews Band (why people like him so much I'll never know)
Marriage
Julia Roberts
Religion
Politically-correct comedians
George W. Bush
90% of the post-millenium emo and modern rock bands (you can't even tell them apart)
The White Stripes
Tim Burton's last several films
MTV
VH1
The Darkness (sigh...do you know what it's like to date a girl who LOVES them?!)
The last few seasons of "The Simpsons"
The last 10 years of "SNL" (except for Will Ferrell)
Eminem
"The Return of the King" (the weakest of the series)
"The Matrix" Trilogy (kids, this series REALLY isn't anything profound. Read the works of William Gibson and watch Cronenberg's 'ExistenZ,' which is a MUCH superior film)
Gasper Noe (the idiot who made "Irreversible" and "I Stand Alone.")
"Black Adder"
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail"
The Beatles (yes, I said it...and I'm not apologizing for it!)

Ok...I'm out of steam...

I love how you're saying this like we haven't had this discussion. mad wink

I LOVE GEOS. I know about the power (um, I drive in Seattle, rarely do I need to go faster than 40mph), I know about the build (mine was totalled and the cop car was barely scratched), and I don't care, I love them. mushy

The Miata is very cute, and I liked yours a lot, but I'm too damn big for them. My legs barely fit inside!

I used to own one, and I hope to own one again when it better fits my life circumstances. It is truly an amazing car... it combines the driving experience of a European roadster with the reliability of a Japanese car.

Also, if you're into image (I really wasn't, BTW), many people assume it's much more expensive than it is. There's a local nightclub that offers valet parking only, and they park all the "best" cars out front to create an image for the place. They'd park my Miata with Ferraris, Porsches, etc.

A Geo Metro is just the right size for you, but a Miata is too small? Sorry, that just doesn't pass the laugh test.

Forgot to mention... by "build quality," I wasn't referring to crash integrity. (In fact, a Miata will get pretty banged up in a crash too--it absorbs the impact and sacrifices itself to protect the occupants). What I meant was that the Geo Metros turned into rattletraps. Compare that to my 17 year old BMW... built like a tank, not a single rattle, and I can drive it like a maniac. wink
