TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY......... My children want a pet. They wanted a ferret, but after doing a lot of research it was a NO.
So after being told my decision they want a dog instead. I live in a townhouse and have a small backyard. The rental manager will approve my choice, no probs. I would like to acquire a "small" breed throught the SPCA. What sort of Small dog would be a good family pet????? I will wait till the Fall to get the animal. Any pics of a possible future addition to my family????? Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Aw hell no I would probably end up swatting it with my newspaper. And plus I don't need to "introduce" this insect here - thank god where I live they don't exist. depends a lot on your lifestyle, the age of the kids, and the room you have. consider the tasks the breed/breed mix was designed to do (hunting, herding, burrowing, lap dog) and match that to your activity level. a dog who needs a job (such as most herding dogs, and all burrowing dogs) have a tendency to be destructive or depressed when they're bored. a natural lap dog will get annoyed if the kids want to play with him more than he's designed or willing to.
thanks for planning to adopt from the SPCA - it's the way to go! be sure to post a pic once you get him/her!

We have a chihuahua...."Chula" is great with the kids...she plays with both
kids and the kitten we just got. But mostly, she's a mellow dog, who would much rather louge with me and get her belly rubbed. Her bark is kind of annoying at first, very high pitched, but we got used to it. She only barks when the mailman and strangers are at the door. Plus, she's very low maintainance...none of those high priced haircuts/grooming for us. She's a mix between a short hair/ long hair , she's mostly short hair with a few longer hairs on her back. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have a sheltie. He requries alot of attention. he can never stay home alone. He goes with the kids to the babysitters. He always wants to be in the car. Hes very verbal as well. But they are good protectors, loyal companions. They are very good with children. But again, require alot of attention. I have a sheltie, too. A mutant sheltie, as I like to call him, since he's huge for a sheltie and often gets mistaken for a collie. NCC2012... your local Trekkie. =/\=
