I used to love the top when we'd go on our camping trips to Elk Hill in the summer. Until one year when my dad came in the cabin yelling his damned head off that my horse had gotten loose from the tree... I forgot I was on the top bunk and leapt out of bed and landed face-first, flat on the floor.

From that point on I always slept on the bottom bunk when we'd go.

neither top or bottom suits me...
I like to enter through the back door

The bunk beds in "my" room (I had to share it with four strangers) was about the same size as the one in the picture, ONLY THERE WAS YET ANOTHER BED SQUEEZED IN BETWEEN THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM ONE!!! I only wish I had got the top bed, because when I turned in my sleep my shoulder kept hitting the bed over me! It can't have been more than 40 cm (16 inches) between them. It was like a bloody grave!

So my advice is: never ever book a room in a hostel unless you've been there to check it out first. Also, eh...make sure you're not poor and thus have no other alternative.

Well usually I prefer the bottom but every once in a while I wanna be in control.
