Willy Wonka's back! Yay!

My hubby went to Pinewood Studios yesterday to fix a scale and they're working on a new Charlie and The Chocolate Factory movie.

Wooohoooo. Remember where y'all heard this first.

That, actually was on IMDB.COM, to be exact.

Guess who's directing.
Guess who's starring.
Guess who's producing.

I for one hate remakes with very few exceptions. Gene Wilder's performance was excellent, and I'd hate to see someone else trying to live up to the role because they wouldn't be able to in my book. Also, we have Tim Burton involved, and look what he did with Planet of the Apes. neutral

Isn't Peter Jackson making a new version of King Kong as well? It's already been remade once. Sheesh!

Yeah, not to mention, nobody else is gonna measure up to Veruca Salt's brilliant obnoxiousness.

While I agree with you on remakes, I don't really view any adaptation of a book as a "remake" per say. To me, when you are translating from a literary source, its a new director doing his/her vision of it (I liken it to all the different stage and films of Shakespeare's works. I don't view any of them as "remakes")

Now, I totally agree with you about Planet Of The Apes, but you have to consider that he just wasn't the right director for that film. His style is definitely suited to a warped childhood story like Willy Wonka. It will probably be a very different take than the original, and I'm cool with that. No sense in doing the same thing that the original filmmakers did with it. I think Depp is a good choice for Wonka, because he won't just do a Gene Wilder impression. Wilder was brilliant in the original (as he is in almost everything), and no one should try to out do him. Best to bring your own thing to it. Just my opinion.
