nature is cruel sometimes yesterday, my kids and i found a very lively baby bird, that fell out of his nest...he was very healthy, and full of life. being that it was mommas day, and i am such a sucker for helpin out the needy, i was moved to try and do something (however, i know you arent supposed to touch them) so, we sat and watched to see what could happen. momma seemed to be very upset that the baby was missing, and was crying out for it. she kept flyin right around the baby as if to protect him from the other birds. so, i tried to call to get advice, but, noone was open on sunday. my neighbor had no problem commin over to get the lil guy, picked him up proclaiming that "birds dont work off a sense of smell". and asked me if i would set him back up there, since i was the tallest. what a great feeling when i had reached the area nearest the nest, and the baby jumped right out of my hand into safety now, momma was happy, the kids were happy, and i felt like i did something good for nature.
now today i go out to take the kids to school, we had a terrible storm here last night. and i got home to find our rescued baby, alone, cold, and with a cat bite i think on its neck. hes out there still trying to breath, and i was gonna get him and warm him up, see if i could help the lil guy out, but, i think this time its more than i can handle. i would help him die, cuz, it seems to be a very drawn out process for the lil guy but, i dont have the heart to kill it..... nature is cruel sometimes, its hard not to think of him out there alone like that. thanks for letting me get this off my chest...sorry if i bummed you out. I have tended to these kind of situations too many times to count. I have had many successful attemts... while mother nature does have it's way of tending to things as well... cruel yes, it does seem to be that way. For years I had a hard time understanding the "cruelness" of mother nature... although now I respect just how things are, I do what I can and if nothing else... hope mother nature tends to a situation in the most humane way possible.
My aunt has new baby ducks and the mother duck was attempting to kill one of them. My aunt took the bady indoors, kept it warm... gave it water and food. It lived for days... although she just came up to visit just yesterday (brought the baby duck as well) and after she arrived at my house, the baby duck died. The elevation is quite high where they drove from... maybe the drive was a factor, maybe not. Now I have a baby duck buried in my backyard. I just can't stand seeing animals suffer... and I just know not everyone cares about their well-being/safetly quite like I do. I mean I have seen quite a few around here with great passion Martina for one... as for me it has been my way of life. I just took this picture a few days ago when I went to visit.

No offense, but stuff like that happens all the time in the wild. It's called survival of the fittest, and it's how the animal kingdom has worked for ages. Sometimes, we humans attach misplaced sentimentality to animals that don't seem up to making it.
I know that sounds harsh, but it seems to be how it works.

Anyone who has ever seen Ardeo naked can testify to the cruelty of nature. "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"
