When Prince was popular in the 80s I was in secondry (high) school. I was well aware of his talent and loved his music but because of his racey lyrics he wasn't allowed up my front path, let alone through my front door. I wasn't really your rebelleous type either so that was that.

I got married at the age of 19 and my husband was a HUGE Prince fan. I still objected to much of the lyrical content but grew to love the other stuff.

Along came the six kids and music, as big a part of our lives as it was, was no longer priority.

Then about six months ago, I started hearing rumors about Prince becoming one of Jehovah's witnesses. (We're a bit behind here in the UK). These kind of rumors often fly around and I took it with a pinch of salt. But the more I heard it, the more intrigued I became.

Anyway, two months ago I finally got hooked up to the internet for the first time. While surfing one day I decided to have a look for a Prince site to see if there was such a thing and if it could shed any light on this rumor. The rest, as they say, is history. Except of course for the fact that last week, the day after it's release, I bought my very first Prince Album having fallen in love with the title track. (Despite my husband already having several P albums) and it hasn't left the CD player since.

Well it goes like this,

In '91 I brought the Michael Jackson 'Dangerous' album on audio tape (O.K., alright, shut up and be quite already! I still think he's aaaight! boxed) from Our Price Records.

Got the bastard tape in the cassette player only to find it was a faulty copy! sad ....

So I went back to Our Price with a friend to complain and get an exchange copy. They told me "Sorry, but we don't have any more copies of 'Dangerous' left in stock. disbelief It'll be back in stock in about a weeks time. Do you want your £ back or otherwise you can exhange it for another tape?"

I said "Naaaheee! fit " (that's "no" in English for all my non-Hindi specking Orgers giggle ) "Fuck you!! Fuck all of you!!! I want my Michael 'fucking' Jackson tape and I want it NOW!! hmph! " (I just made that last bit up! innocent ).

It was me pal who said " chill pill the fuck out! You should just get this prince PRINCE prince
tape for now, headbang DIAMONDS AND PEARLS music , coz I heard it and I think it's wicked!.... If you dont like it you can always return it and say it's faulty too."

I thought "Why not!", so I took the Diamonds And Pearls tape.

A week later, I did return back to the Our Price store with the Diamonds And Pearls audio tape.
I took it to the counter, called the assistant, pointed to the PRINCE tape and said....

"Give me a look at this guy's back catalogue!!! batting eyes"

biggrin
