Alcohol represents 7 kcal (calories) per gram. Only 4 kcal per gram for protein and carbohydrate, 9 kcal for fat. Alcohol does not give you a high nutrient per calorie count so alcohol is generally not a wise choice for those seeking to lose weight.Im a personal trainer as well.

Ah, but see. Other than the fact that it's 7kcal per gram, you're also over simplifying the matter. Fat has 9kcal per gram, yet it's common to lower carb intake and up fat & protein and still lose weight. wink

Unless people are new to the whole gym scene and need instruction on HOW to use the machines formwise I have never understood the need for a trainer. Shouldn't motivation be internal instead of paying someone for it?

This is true in people who respond poorly to a diet that consists of predominately high glycemic index foods, but for any ordinary person, its soley about caloric expenditure. The question is: Are you burning more calories than you take in everyday? If the answer is no, you will gain weight. It really is that simple. By the way "ounces" should read as "grams".
