Eddie Murphy's Appreciation Thread I've been watching his "Coming 2 America" movie and listening to his CDs(Stand-up jokes) I truely miss the WILD OUTRAGOUS FILTHY mofo who's FULL of inside SICK/DANGEROUS jokes. Like maaaan lol they played his Saturday Night Live Skit the other day and the difference between Eddie now and Eddie yesterday is far-fitched. He would wipe the floor with Chris Rock's underrated ass but not anymore sadly.
He's getting safer/wiser/calmer nowadays I guess but I'm enjoying his journey 4 what it is! Much props & juice 2 this brotha

Blah,,,another cynic to go Seems to me that he ONLY focused on the BAD sides of Eddie's career, 4 whateva reason I think he's holding against him 4 something, maybe I'm biased but the way he's speaking about Eddie's career is not that much of a pro(For one thing he's not detailed and like I said he's OVERLOOKING the great points). Aaaw fuck him,,Arian brotha rocks on

Eddie used to be the man, but sadly I find nothing funny about him anymore. Eddie's strongest points are his impersonations and sexual jokes. Chris is the king of political/racial jokes. Can't compare the two. I just hope Chris will never go Disney on us. [This message was edited Sat May 1 14:50:45 2004 by J0eyC0c0]

I like Charlie Murphy better these days. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Eddie may have so calle dlost his fire but he didnt burn out like Pryoir etc..he aint nuthing like Pryor and never will/would be but its testament to his character etc that he hasnt fallen on the wayside with drug scandals, blowing his fortune etc... Oh my, oh my.

Eddie is a legend, plain and simple... not all of them age well according to us consumers/fans/critics. It'd have been great if Richard Pryor could have kept doing 'Mudbone' or whatever instead of "Moving" (which has its moments too lol), but life happens...people grow. So Eddie matured and realized he could do some family oriented things... more power to him. The baton has been passed... and he's done a lot in helping the later guys get put on.
Chris Rock is completely different to me...I couldn't begin to compare the two. Its funny though, I love exposing people to 'Raw' and 'Delirious' to people who only know the Beverly Hills Cop or Nutty Prof stuff... "...and ...if anybody else moves...I'ma kick they ass..?? .. Eddie did burn out, every movie he does now is a complete embarrassment. I think it's complete bullshit that people think Eddie changed for the better. He didn't artistically and personally I think that if you believe he has done the right thing it also means that whatever he has done in the past was not right and shouldn't be enjoyed. I don't agree with that, but I'm not surprised people think that way.

Beverly hills cop movies,Harlem nights,Coming to america,Boomerang, both 48 hours movies....! Nutty professor was funny in places (eg:-when he's l;aughing at the standup is classic), but yeah, universally we all don't like his family movies really, but it's better then him just dissapearing completely though right?

Its an embarassment to you and your demographic maybe..but he found a niche' doing family fodder thats successful ( expcept Pluto Nash lol) so thats "burning out"? to you? LOL. He never got hooked on drugs like Pryor (who is a god mind you) and he sucessfully made the jump from comedian to actor to successful actor, and finally family man with nary a scandal. You dont like the fact that he isn't doing Raw anymore. Pryor went on to do The Toy and other crap as well but Eddie isnt allowed to grow and mature into a career that isnt part of the smart alec cominc zeitgeist anymore? Thats ignorant yet typical thinking. Are you the same as you were 15 years ago? If so then you must have faoiled to m,ature succesfully, damn a stars career, lol. and I never said he changed "for the better" but he damn sure didn't consciously change, and if so it certainly wasn't for the worse either. He still has a successful career even if it doesn't satisfy the elementary wants or needs form people such as yourself. Now THATS success. And he has done the right thing..for him to be onstage spouting homophobic aggresive egotitical male caca at this stage in his career would have turned him into an Andrew Dice Clay idiot ..and where is Andrew today? Yeah...thats what I thought. And nothing he does today negates any of his past work..I never said that. You insinuated thats what I meant. Oh my, oh my.

Yeah I understand evolve and change completely.
Thats not what this is about. Him making some really stupid ass movies is a good starting point. People become fans because they like what there hearing, seeing or reading. So when you change your style completely like he has. Your gonna lose alot of your original fan base. Your probably right about still acting crazy around friends.People wanna see it though.

Even th e great ones make so called crap later in their careeer..DiNero, Pacino, Brando, Denzel...in a staggering amount of work of course there are gonna be some stinkers..but as one said I was negating his earlier work by saying he has a right to have eased up, just th e same his recent output should not negate his good work. Heres Eds stuff from imdb just for shits n giggles

There are actors who have acquired a fortune by making shit movies. How much money a movie makes is not the criterium. Brando hasn't made a good movie in decades, but somehow I fail to see what that has to do with Eddie. First of all Eddie's not an actor by nature, so him doing nothing but making movies I consider a sell out. Then there's the fact that he has chosen a genre which is always using the safe jokes rather than trying something different. I don't know if you've noticed, but comedy is always evolving. Eddie however seems to have been stuck for about a decade now.
It's all cool though, I'm not losing any sleep over it. There are a few others who are still doing what they do best.
