Prety cool couch though, huh? Plus the tables are just great although glass is a bitch to keep clean. I plan to buy a big oval mirror to hang above it which will be nice so I can look at myself in the living room . [This message was edited Thu Apr 22 14:26:09 2004 by lovemachine] Nice! Red is a good color. I know what you mean about the tables being a bitch to keep clean. I have mirrored glass tables in my living room, and I'm constantly cleaning them, since my cats jump and lay all over them. Thankyou 9s, I am deeply indebted to you. I call it organised chaos. I know excatly where everything is. Are you one of those hoarders who can't throw anything away? Like, not even your used kleenex and old Band-Aids??? "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Moderator | I don't like red
but I like the style! In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

I have a history of over-decorating so as I am re-doing the living room I am trying to be very minimal, but truth be told I still need to pick up a mirror, a couple of plants and a table lamp which should fill out the area.

I have a history of over-decorating so as I am re-doing the living room I am trying to be very minimal, but truth be told I still need to pick up a mirror, a couple of plants and a table lamp which should fill out the area. I believe it's better to be that way than to have WAY TOO MUCH stuff. I was having work done to my bathroom recently, and the guy had to travel down to the basement to shut off the valve...he actually told me that he hopes I never move, cause we have too much stuff! My instinct was to bitch-slap him...but he was right...time to trim it down. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. Now you need to concentrate on finding nice "wall art". Go for something in an abstract style, in the same vein as the MirĂ³ in that other picture of the neutral colored living room. If you need any suggestions, just let me know; I'm a silent partner in an art gallery collective with wharehouses in Peking, Paris, and New York (all oil too) !!! If you're not ready for oil paintings, then just take a trip online to www.art.com for the biggest selection of art posters in every style imaginable, including cool movie posters. Get your frames from your local Lechter's or Micheal's, or better yet, IKEA if there's one near your town. Beyond that, you'll need to add one floor plant, and maybe one table plant; I'm visualizing BAMBOO of some sort on an end table. The easiest place to find plants should be at Home Depot from what I remember. when I was young and dumb I used to waste all my dough buying my plants from Calyx and Carolla, but once I discovered tha "Garden Center" at Home Depot that was the end of that madness. You can find good pots there too (houseplants in plastic containers are a total no-no). Find yourself a nice thick coffee table book or two on your favorite subjects and smack 'em right down on your coffee table. Make sure you have cute glasses to serve wine or cocktails in the livingroom when your friends come to visit. Given the basic premise of your livingroom (that being 21st century modern) if you need any ideas, the magazine I suggest you consult would be "Metropolitan Home"; nearly everything they focus on is modernist, vs. some of the other types of decor usually featured in the magazines House Beautiful or Elle Decor. Also get online and order yourself a catalog from www.ikea.com so you can really get some really good composition ideas on how you can build on what you have going on in the livingroom now. IKEA is a perfect resource for you, because alot of Scandinavian design (Scandinavia being the headquarters for IKEA) is based on modernist design bordering on fururism, in bright colors- just like how you're starting your livingroom out. ...okay..not that you asked me for any of that information, but I hope it's helpful all the same I've done that kind of stuff in my career for years and sometimes I just can't leave it alone, even late on a Saturday night when I SHOULD be kicking back on my sofa with a good movie, lol!
