drool Ooh, one of my favorite topics.....

I've been doing yoga for 5 years now, and once I started I was hooked. I kick myself for not getting into it 10 years ago (being a dancer, it's changed my life/body/mind). I do mostly Iyengar yoga, and don't do classes anymore, mostly because my first yoga teacher moved to Sweden, and my second moved to Switzerland last year. sad So, I always do it by myself at home because after five years I have enough knowledge of asanas and meditation methods to basically work on it myself. Although I'll take a class here and there when I'm in the U.S. (I can't find any good classes here in Holland at the moment) because I love getting corrections and it's always nice to have an outside eye. One day I'd like to teach it as well.

Stick with it, because you can do it your whole life and always improve. Plus, it centers you whole body and mind, prevents injury and sickness, and gives you energy. thumbs up!

Coooool. I feel really funky today. I can tell it made a difference already! I've noticed a difference in my breathing and even just the way I walk. I tried another yoga video last year and it was tooo strenuous for me that I got sick the next day. I wasn't ready for those toxins to flush out.

I took some dance in college (jazz, modern, ballet and African) so I could totally understand proper alignment. Having an outside eye would be great, I used to love that about my Modern dance teacher. She was really good at checking your body and making sure you were moving the right way. I got a little worried when I was doing one of the poses and watching the tv screen then she says "never turn your head during this pose"... OOPS!

Yeah, that's why a class is always better, at least until you have a grasp of all the basic asanas. I've never done yoga with a video, but I can imagine that you would have to look at the screen at some point! lol

My uncle is actually a qualified teacher of yoga and spends about 80% of his time in his room doin yoga! Since i was young i've been able to naturally sit with my legs crossing over with my knees touching..one day he saw me do this n he flipped!! Apparantly this is what people do yoga to achieve...but ya need flexible hips for it!!!

Do you mean the Lotus pose? confuse I'm trying to picture what you mean, but you said your knees touch, so I'm trying to think of what that is. lol

Same thing with me.I had a degenerative disc at C6-C7 for g years and did yoga twice a week from 2000-to OCT 2002.They I had the neck fusion done, and it's tough to get back into it.I think I'll go tonight(at my gym) for the first time. But yoga is the REAL DEAL! Didn't cure my neck problem, but I was a flexible boy!

lol That one's painful and I don't do it very often. I remember we did it once in my sister's yoga class, and it was the first time I had taken from her instructor. I was almost crying because we had to hold it forever and put all our weight on our legs as well. That class kicked my ass. disbelief
