Is 45 years old really old???

This is kind of a Prince related question and yet it isn't.

All this talk about Prince "mellowing" because he has matured and gotten older. "He's 45, he can't do the splits anymore." That kind of stuff. Even Prince talking about how he's got "old skin."

Is 45 really old?? I think this is where time really plays tricks. My hubby is talking the same way Prince is and I'm like omfg To me, this is a prime time!!! I'm not in my fourties yet, but I started having problems with my age when I turned thirty until I started looking at it a new way.

I'd look back at pictures of when I was 18 and say "I thought I was fat??? Was I nuts???" Then I realized, yes I was. I was looking towards the future...when I'm older...when I'm out of college...when the kids grow up...when I have enough money...

It finally dawned on me. No one is guaranteed the future. I don't want to be 70, looking at pictures of when I was in my thirties and say... "I should have..."

I have God. I have my family. I have my health. I choose to live in today. If there is something I want or want to do, what should my age have to do with it?

Do I act the same as I did at 18? Do I want to do the same things? No, but I refuse to mellow.

headbang Rock on ya'll....my rant is over giggle

No, it's not old. But soon...

And at certain ages people shouldn't be expected to be the exact same person they were when they were at a more youthful age. That just reflects the expectations of someone who is stuck in a time warp and hasn't evolved him/herself. With time should come a sort of wisdom that wasn't possible when we were in our youth.

This doesn't mean that we should succumb to some age-wise, stereotypical expectations when we get older, but at the same time discretion should keep us from becoming parodies of ourselves. "Mellowing" is a word that doesn't appeal to us because it conjures up visions of those middle age stereotypes. I hear ya...who needs that?

I don't see 45 as old at all. I think once you get into your mid 50's then it's kinda looking downhill sad but 40's & early 50's is still cool. I'd date a 40+ year old man in a minute biggrin And Prince ain't old!
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Coming to you on a dusty road
Good loving, I got a truck load
And when you get it, you got something
Don't worry, 'cause I'm coming
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man, I'm a soul man
Got what I got the hard way
And I make it better, each and every day
So honey, said don't you fret
'Cause you ain't seen nothing yet
I was brought up on a side street
I learned how to love before I could eat
I was educated at Woodstock
When I start loving, whoa I can't stop
Just grab the rope and I'll pull you in
Give you hope and be your only boyfriend
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm talking about a soul man, soul man
Here I am, you lucky people!
I know a thing or two about a thing or two!!

This statement is so very true.

I am 51 and I tell you I feel like this is the prime of my life. Sure things are changing, but then again, that is what life is all about..

And I bet Prince can still do the splits..

Naw, 45 isn't old.

Prince seems to think it is. Anyone else notice that?

He also seems to think just cuz you're starting to age, you have to mellow intensely. sad

Im in my mid 30s and yes, I notice little cricks and creaks that weren't there before. The body ages. But why does the mind and personality need to? I'm not saying to be reckless and irresponsible like many of us were at 18 but why does the strength of youth have to go away just because your body isn't that of an 18 year old. I'm so young in my spirit and I still feel like an 18 year old some days.

I aint jumpin on this ridiculous train. Forever young!!! woot!

Yup.

I think aging isn't an easy thing for Prince to deal with. maybe easi*er* for him nowadays given his current mindset and religious beliefs than it would've been if he didn't have them, but I think Prince place/d so much importance on looks and the physical that the process of aging will be a challenge for him to come to terms with. jmo

The mind and soul can stay young, but the body wears out!

Consider Prince's hectic recording/touring schedule, and all that travelling - that alone would age him!

Vacation travel is fun, work travel is not. shake
