I'm Quitting My Job On Monday ... wish me luck!
I am happy there, but I want to spend the summer with my kids (that and I can't stand the thought of paying someone $325 a week to watch them FOR me). So, I am quitting and am going to care for three other children for four hours a day. During this time, I think I'm also going to start up my candle/incense business again. I've already contacted two of the gift shops that carried them before and they're ready when I am! I'm scared, but very happy, too.

Cool! GOOD LUCK!
I've *thought* of starting a candle and incense business. Very groovy.

Ex-Moderator | Good for you! I'm contemplating the same thing myself. Not to take care of my kids (as I don't have any) but because I'm becoming increasingly unhappy with my job. I began putting my resume together today, in fact. |

Do you make patchouli-scented ones?

Thanks, guys...
I've been running this through my head for months now, wondering what to do because school will let out soon, and tonight I finally made my decision... yikes! So, I'll put in my month and a half notice in on Monday! . [This message was edited Wed Apr 21 17:05:02 2004 by AzureStarr]

Do you make patchouli-scented ones? I did when I made them. Patchouli and Sandalwood blend were a larger seller... that and Frangipani. If I do decide to start that back up again, I'll note you and send you some. . [This message was edited Wed Apr 21 17:03:11 2004 by AzureStarr]

I don't blame you for wanting to spend more time with your kids. If I had children, I would feel the exact same way. It's cool that you want you start up your own business, I have always wanted to start up a business of my own as well (since I don't like working for other people anyway). RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I hope so, too... the child care thing scares me a bit because I'm not all that fond of kids. I like them and all... but, I don't know. I'm not THAT much into them. I hope it's enough to keep me afloat. The candles/incense I used to do when I lived with my husband, and I was doing okay with it. I quit when things started picking up and people were really ordering. I became bored of it.

I bought a candle that smells like lilacs, and it really scents up the house when I burn it. Candles rock! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I did. When I had that up and running what I did was this... I would custom scent each candle. A lot of people like a certain scent, but they would like their candles to go with their decor. So... I would, for instance, well... vanilla candles usually come in a cream color. I would scent any color or type of candle (different wax/effects/etc) in vanilla. That way, the customer could have their entire home scented with one scent, but have each candle in the color they decided. I would also color match to their wallpaper, etc... one lady sent me swatches of her bedding and the border in her kitchen to get the exact color. I also made up my own designs and styles of candles and would sell them at different prices than I would the custom ones. I had a huge order for 100 1" square votive candles in Frangipani, with this fancy wax that is easy to mess up if you take it off the heat too soon and 50 3" pillars in the same scent, all white for a wedding from this lady in California. I was making candles NON-STOP for a week. They have to cure for at least seven days before I can send them... that had me frazzled! It wouldn't have been so bad if I'd have more molds to work with and didn't have my kids running around. So, yeah... I did any scent that was requested, but also sold my favorites made as I wanted. It was fun... for a while.
