hehe, just ignore me. I was just off on one about Florence again smile

I've never flown to Rome without my parents (when I was younger) so they did all the organising, but shuttle buses operate from both Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports. The only difference is Rome is so much bigger than florence. u can be dropped in the centre of florence and walk to ur hotel pretty easy, but Romes different. u might need to get a bus from the airport and then a cab, so it wont be that dear

Sorry I've just realised I've been of almost no use to u!

My wife went to both Florence and Rome. She didn't like Rome.....very dirty and over crowded. Florence was nicer. Expect to pay a bit more for a better hotel. Their idea of a 3 star hotel is our version of a 1 or 2 star.

i disagree - i've never been to rome or florence but i was at several places in italy at the seaside
i just can say that a **hotel in italy = ***hotel in london for example

That's true! Hotels in London are awesome considering how how much money you have to buy for a hotel there, in Italy I stayed in many different hotels and with the exception of one they were all fine!
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Rome was... ergh... but the Vatican and St. Peter's Church were amazing... anyway, my sister and I stayed at a convent (with NUNS!) in Vatican City, and although it was a 5 minute walk from the church, it was about half an hour (by bus) to the center of Rome. That turned out to be a pain in the ass. On New Years Eve we stayed at a hotel across the street from the Termini metro station but it was a huge ripoff. Looking back, Rome was nice, but I would have rathered stayed in Florence instead and took day trips for the Vatican and Church. (Florence is only like an hour, hour and a half train ride from Rome.)

Florence was amazing, and I wished we had stayed there longer. (If you DO decide to stay, try out Hotel Firenze - we were supposed to stay there for a few nights, but couldn't... anyway my sister says it's supposedly REALLY nice and very reasonable as well.) My friends just came back from Italy - they spent most of their time in Bologna - and now my boyfriend and I are thinking of making one last trip before leaving Europe... to, where else - Bologna!

Be very very careful in Rome. My boyfriend's best friend was very recently mugged and severely beaten outside of the Termini station - the assholes then proceeded to spend 1000 euros on his credit card while he was lying unconscious in a hospital. Anyway, have a good time!

thumbs up!

Oh, and if you plan to do some sightseeing, grab a copy of Rick Steves. His tour books are THE best, and blow Lonely Planet out of the water.
