Financial Question Why is it that when you use a debit card, you'd have to press "credit" instead of "debit". I mean, it's not really a credit card. Just signed up for one today and was just wondering. Read the rules and regulations book and it doesn't say why. I don't want any problems from this bank, as they already have a lot of fees for a lot of things. The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon...dammit!

As far as I know it's your choice.

It's credit until you pay the bank back.

Yup I was just about to say that. In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Thanks guys. I'm quick with lots of things, but I'm afraid that when it comes to finances, I'm not all that bright. Found that out the hard way, so for a long time I was basically doing the shoebox thing and only had an account for cashing checks. The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon...dammit!

Ex-Moderator | Wait, it depends. If your card has a Visa logo you probably have to select credit. It has to do with which network will authorize the transaction. In Minnesota, there are no true debit cards (that I know of), only "check cards" with a Visa logo that are run through Visa international. I lived in Wisconsin one summer and actually had a bank debit card that could only be used at local participating retailers. |

Ok, the card they'll be sending to me will have a MasterCard logo on it. The booklet says I can use it at an ATM or any POS (Point of Sale) place. Haven't gotten the acutal card yet , so I don't know if I'll have to use a pin number or not. The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon...dammit!

You'll have to use your pin if it's done as a POS (debit) but if it's used as a credit card there should be no need to enter a pin, just a signature is required.
