Who here saw the Chinese film "The Eye"?

And who liked it? I was bored silly. The video store dude recommended it saying, "You won't be able to sleep." Well, I wanted to sleep during the film itself. Can anyone recommend a truly scary movie (and yes, I will check the post about horrifying films).

Thanks.

I haven't seen it, but I did a search on it just now. Apparently, an American version of this is going to be released soon... a few sites said Tom Cruise (ack!) was going to make the American version. ill

See this before Tom Cruise's company turns it into Hollywood schlock. !!!!!

Recently, the horror lovers like myself, felt the refreshing, beautiful, and terrifying wave of asian horror movies. They are definetly too distant from the western ones, mostly in vision, acting, and budget (ofcorse). But I personally think, that when speaking of vision, atmosphere and horror itself, Asian Horror movies are way better than the rest. Good examples are movies like Ringu, Tale of Two Sisters, Dark Water, Battle Royale, Oodishon and defenetely The Eye.
The movie came like a cold shower for me. I really expected much from the trailer, and the movie managed not only to match my expectation, but also, it exceeded them. I was shocked by the great vision, the powerful acting, the realy wicked and pure horror scenes...
Unlike RING, THE EYE is not really in need for an American remake. The movie looks and sounds slick enough to have been produced by a major Hollywood studio. But it is Hollywood's assumption that English- speaking moviegoers can't read subtitles (maybe they are right) will not stop them from remaking foreign hits in the future. While there are elements in THE EYE that would sure help an improvement, it doesn't really need a remake. It is one scary thrill-ride that you might enjoy.

I never saw the original, just his re-make... which I did like, surprisingly enough. It also helped that his face was messed up a lot in that movie, which helped me stomach it even more.

He just makes me wanna puke.

You should see the original (Abre Los Ojos).....way better than the remake....
In fact both films are very similar which makes you wonder why Crow bothered to remake it.
If you enjoyed the story of "Vanilla Sky" but were turned off by the excessive self-centered Hollywood egos, as I was, then "Abre los ojos" may be an enjoyable movie for you.
Eduardo Noriega (star of Abre Los Ojos and Amenabar's previous movie, the taut, suspenseful 'Tesis', also worth a look) is much more believable than Tom Cruise as the increasingly baffled protagonist caught in a never-ending nightmare, and Penelope Cruz's (who appear in both versions)....performance here is subtler and more appealing than her reprise of Sofia in Crowe's overblown and self-indulgent remake.

By the way thews today is that To Cruise and Penelope Cruz Split Up..... lol

Audition, The Piano Teacher, Ringu, etc. These were good. I didn't think The Eye was.

And just for the heck of it, I'll post my feelings on Tom Cruise...

He was good in Magnolia, but I can't stand the sight of him and he ruins every movie he's in for me. Plus, Penelope Cruz has been fine in her native language films, but was she not the most annoying thing ever in Vanilla Sky?
