ALL THE WOMEN OF THE ORG WHO RELAX THEIR HAIR

i am in a bit of a pickle. a few months ago i decided that i wanted to stop relaxing my hair and that i would let it grow out for a few months and then cut off the relaxed part. well, last night i blew out my hair straight and it looks so fabulous that i don't want to cut it off anymore. it's not the idea of having natural hair that's putting me off since i could always just blow it out if i wanted it straight, it's the short part. and i can't just stop relaxing it and not cut it because then i'll have all sorts of nasty shedding and whatnot. i don't have to relax it that often either, only about every three or four months.

so what should i do? should i bite the bullet and cut my hair or should i keep on doing what i've been doing and cut it at a later date? i don't know what to do. sad please help!

hmmm...I think for the healthiest result, in the long run, cut it now, Jess, and let it grow out long... nod If it starts to shed and/or break off while it grows, you'll have a head of long thin hair. no no no! And, you know, there are many great short styles you can wear. smile

hug

I'm just talking, tho...perhaps there is a stylist on the Org who can give advice on what you should do to grow a relaxer out and not cut your hair. Good luck, hun. rose

You can get away with wigs for a little while. But if ya keep 'em on for too long (6+ months), your hair will start to dry-rot, and you'll definitely have to cut it off for sure. Try to stay away from wigs if you can.

i have too much hair for a wig, weave, or braids. it would be uncomfortable. thanks for the other advice. i don't want to be a slave to my hair but it looks sooooo good right now.

That's the thing that has me stumped, Jessy...I think it's good to give your hair a rest from the relaxers and/or chemical treatments...but, if you stop relaxing your hair and even blow-dry it straight, would it break off...(?)...I think that's what usually happens...(Kiss, what do you think??...)...

Your hair very possibly can grow the relaxer out without breakage, but I was thinking that you could just skip the stage of "possible damage" and grow your hair out full strength. smile

I can't relax my hair, if it gets even more relaxed than it already is, it'll fall off lol
But I think the problem is a bit similar to me dying my hair and wanting the natural color back. What I do is wear a hat all day (so usually I wait till winter), I have some cool hats and nowadays you can wear'm inside. biggrin

Oh please! Let me tell you a story about Lleena...

Last week or so I played a prank on her where I managed to get Joe Kelley to call Lleena a git on his internet radio broadcast. Hahahahaha!

Well, Lleena vowed that she would get revenge on me. I was soooo scared rolleyes

So the other day she OrgPops me and says, "Did you know that in Shakespeare's Othello, Othello calls Iago a git at one point?" -- And you all know how it is when you get an OrgPop from Lleena, it's like Oh Jeez, not again...so I humored the poor dear and said "Oh really?" (I confess now that I didn't even really read the OrgPop...) So anyway, she comes back at me like "Ha! I got you! I made that up! I got my revenge!"

I was like wtf? That's revenge?? LMAO! How lame... disbelief

That doesn't come close to her being called a git on internet radion by a complete stranger!

Hahahahaha!

I OWN Lleena!!

Oh my goodness..You've been drinking the cats pee tea again. smile

Such fibs! I org popped you about Othello and you said, "Wow, really, I'm going to look it up. do they use that a lot over there?" At which point I fell off my chair laughing. After I had composed myself, and told you that I had made that up, you muttered something about me being a git and grumbled like an old man looking for his slippers. smile

I rest my case smile

although I haven't had a relaxer in about four years, I think its best to "pick a team" as one hairdresser told me one day.

You may need to let someone help you care for you hair if you want to keep the length. I remember reading about Aaliyah "going natural". She said she stop getting her hair relaxed and went back to the ole fashioned "press n curl" technique. She said that they used waves and extensions to help her hair stay healthy along with lots of hot oil treatments.

I read it one of those black hair mags.

i don't know if i can afford all that. sigh i think i'm just going to keep relaxing it and wearing it long until i'm ready for short hair. i would love it if my hair were natural right now but i still love having long flowing hair.
