So, people. Be useful for me here.

I've got short hair, and I like to wear it chunky/spikey. I've been using Bumble and Bumble products. . .SumoTech and the Gloss stuff. But it's so damn expensive. I bought some cheapo stuff from Target (Got2Be, I think the line is called), but it's pretty awful.

There has got to be a more affordable way to have cool hair. Ideas?

I got some great BedHead stuff called 'Manipulator' that you can do some great stuff with. Its the texture of marshmallow fluff and smells like it too

I'd try that if you want to spike it/chunk it

I swear by American Crew and MOP products - MOP's basil mint shampoo is yummy and light and their conditioners are great as well, though lately I've been using American Crew's Citrus Mint shampoo and conditioner (you can find 'em on sale at most hair salons for like $22 for both...really not a bad deal when ya see how big the bottles are). As for styling product, I've been using American Crew's Fiber molding creme for years - it's like spackle, only it doesn't leave my hair looking greasy or like a haystack. Plus it smells purty. OH, and it's recently gone on sale at hair salons too - two containers of the stuff for twenty bucks (one container usually goes for about fifteen dollars).

So there ya go. All my beauty secrets, fresh from the swamp.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. . .I actually have tried Bedhead (Matt has some). . .hate the smell, but if it's cheaper, I can put up with that.

Try Aveda's styling stick. It's a little pricey, but lasts a LONG time (so it works out that's it's not so pricey) and smells sooooo good. And you get to look like you're using deorderant on your head.

go to sally's beauty supply. you might find the same stuff cheaper there OR a better salon quality version of it that's not too pricey. i have a ton of hair and sally's is the only way i can afford it.

I love LUSH's stuff, too. They have these bars of shampoo, so you get to look like you're using a bar of soap on your head!

lol at the 'hair deoderant'. ..I've got this Prive wax stick thing that looks like you're applying a giant tube of lip balm to your head.

I'll prolly try the Crew stuff first. I know where to get it, I've heard good things about it, it's fairly inexpensive, and I like the smell (even though it's "manly". . .doesn't bother me). I guess I'll just try something new each time I run out of product and find what I like best. I'll report back.

I also was digging through my hair stuff this evening and came across my dreadlock wax (Knotty Boy). Tried it as a styling wax, and it worked beautifully. And it's pretty cheap.

Try "Being Fierce" by Rusk. It's a wax that comes in a little plastic canister . . very good for getting spikey and chunky. It's what I use . . .

Before that I used "Wired", also by Rusk.

Sebastian products are good, but they tend to get costly too!

There's always:

There's a line of "Sexy Hair" products called "Straight Sexy Hair". They make a blue colored hair gel that is insanely strong, and dries real fast. It's the strongest hair gel I have ever used, but you gotta work quick with it cuz it freezes up quickly. It's great for spikey hair.

For somethin cheap, the Salon Selectives pomade isnt bad at all.

I've tried alot of different products, and some of them work good but smell so bad I can't use them. BedHead stuff works great, but all their blue stuff smells like cheap coconut car air fresheners to the 10th degree. Vavoom makes a morphing gel that is neat but it makes you smell like motor oil.

I like molding cream better then that gel shit....it holds better....but really I do not use alot of hair products just cause I got fine hair and it get nappy if I use alot of stuff on it. Aussie makes really good shampoo conditioner and hair spray also I love it
