I hardly ever go out to see a movie - I think the last one I saw in a multiplex was "Kill Bill Volume 1" and the next one will be Volume 2.
I always see films like a year after everybody else has... Anyway, last week I was shopping for groceries in my local supermarket and found "Y Tu Mama Tambien" for £9.99 and "Donnie Darko" for £4.99. I don't know why people went on about "Donnie Darko" so much. It wasn't funny, scary, thrilling or thought-provoking at all. It was very boring and ultimately anti-climactic. "Y Tu Mama Tambien" on the other hand was sexy, funny, honest and very touching - so that's my recommendation. Oh - I saw "American Movie" on the telly the other week. I loved it. It was like a Spinal Tap for Indie Film-Makers - except it was real.

Damn! I love that film. Funny, exciting, and the triumph of true love over the Fire Swamp, giant rodents and a man with six fingers. What could be more perfect?

That film is great.. Reminds me of when I was a child! The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom - Anais Nin

I give you three titles that all at one point were number one in my list of best movies EVER.
Amadeus. Great acting of a superb script with beautiful photography and awesome and inspiring music. Still number one in my book. Le Grand Blue. Really weird movie. Against? It has Rosanna Arquette in it. But even her bad acting can't stop this movie from being beautiful. For? A beautiful storyline about other ways of being. And a hunk of a leading actor (Jean-Marc Barr). And Jean Reno has a fun role in it. The music is great too; by Eric Serra. And last, but not least; The Nightmare Before Christmas. Another movie about how being different is okay as long as you are being yourself. Witty, fun, great stop/motion animation and if you buy the special edition DVD you get two great Tim Burton shorts extra. Lock, Stock & Barrel crack me up every time. But you gotta see through the musical aspect of it all. Danny Elfman sings, btw. Besides writing the music.

Nightmare before Christmas is my favourite film full stop, -possibly with the exception of the Big Lebowski. The whole thing is just outrageously good. The music is beautiful, and oogie boogie's song is slammin. Pee Wee plays one of Lock Stock & Barrel - can't remember which one. Danny Elfman also plays one of them... "I sense there's something in the wind. That feels like tragedy's at hand..." Vincent on the dvd is also brilliant. Amadeus kicks ass too. I think the version of Gran Partita on there is one of the best i've heard, and the presentation of it is also brilliant.

I forgot to mention one of the reasons I started this thread. I also recently saw Requiem for a Dream. I'm not sure how I felt about it although it certainly stays with you, and there were great performances from Ellen Burstyn, Marlon Wayons, and Jennifer Connoly (I'm not sure how many of those names I spelled right...)
Anyone else see this? | |
