I think Howard Stern is repulsive. He annoys the fuck out of me. So I don't listen to him -- simple enough to me. If you don't like it, don't listen. SIGN ME UP! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

[This message was edited Thu Mar 11 15:19:59 2004 by CarrieMpls] I'm not the biggest fan of howard stern either but i really see this as a freedom of speech issue. It would be one thing if individual radio stations were dropping him because of people in certain areas complaining or ratings were low, but this is a nationwide company that's dropping him. Many people don't have a say in the matter since radio stations are no longer owned by regional companies. it's also interesting that Clear Channel is dropping stern like a bad habit but isn't laying a finger on rush limbaugh, who many people find equally offensive and is also own by Clear Channel. Clear Channel has also prohibited radio station to play Pink Floyd's 'money' because of it's 'message'. I think it's an outrageous event even though I could care less if i ever heard another floyd song in my life. Nobody in my neck of the woods is that offended by pink floyd's 'money' or howard stern to go so far as to have them banned for their 'artistic', and i use that term loosely, expression. Either Clear Channel should give the power back to regional stations or it should stop trying to control free speech to the point where the consumer has no say. It makes me scared to think what's next. so yeah, i signed. clarification edit. [This message was edited Thu Mar 11 15:43:20 2004 by jessyMD32781]

It's not about being offensive, but obscene. Rush never plays "Anal Ring Toss" on his show. And just for the record, Rush is supporting Howard in this matter. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

While Rush may have never done that, i do find some of his opinons on politics and race just as obscene as some may find 'anal ring toss'. However, my post wasn't so much attacking rush as it was Clear Channel who is getting rid of one controversial show and not another.

While I am in no way a fan of Mr. Stern, I am a fan of the Right to Free Speech...
In fact, I will go as far as to say I find him repulsive, disgusting, juvenile, sexually immature and somewhat racist... yeah. But I choose not to listen to him... that's the difference. I know it's there, I just avoid it. I know crystal meth and crack is out there too... I avoid those things too. So - yeah, I'll sign the petition. ...and yeah, I'll continue to ignore him. |

Were this government mandated, I would rally behind Howard. I certainly agree that Clear Channel has way too much power but rallying behind an entertainer I don't care for won't change that. I've stopped listening to radio altogether because it's turned into such crap in Mpls. In that sense, I vote with my dollars and time. |

I never was a Stern fanatic, either, but I've always admired one thing about him: he never bitched out and backed down to anyone about sayin stuff over the airwaves.....not even back in the day when shit was more censored and peeps criticized him then. So for that, out of my ultimate respect for him and the 1st Amendment, I'll sign it. [This message was edited Fri Mar 12 0:18:55 2004 by kiss85] They did WHAT??!....

It's funny how Howard was so down for bush after 9/11 but as soon as he spoke up and called the prez a lunatic for medling with the gay/lesbian marriage issues he suddenly then is threatened by the FCC and Congress. I don't know wether he needs many peoples support considering he already said he'd quit his show if Bush signed that particular bill affecting him . Here's hat I'm wondering, if he moves to XM radio as he has mentioned he might will he or won't he be making more money than ever?
