Osama" is about a girl in Afghanistan who has to dress up as a boy so she can work. However, she and everyone else are being watched by the Taliban, and it's nearly impossible to escape their oppressive grasp. The recreation of Taliban society is amazing, as are the ruins of Kabul. You will root hard for the girl named "Osama", she is truly innocent and her plight is not of her making. It's amazing that horrible societies like this exist, but they do. Director Siddiq Barmak's short feature-length film, "Osama," won a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film. ....Marina Golbahari who plays "Osama" is a lovely young actress who was discovered by director Sadiq Barmak. At the time she was 13, working the Afghani streets of Kabul as a beggar to help feed the family. The director hired her to play the nameless girl turned boy "Osama" in the film Osama (2003). She used her earnings to shelter her parents. .....very touching and humane.....

The premise reminds me of Yentl or the Disney cartoon Mulan.

I saw the preview of this, and it looks really good. It's not at any theaters around here, so I'll probably pick it up on DVD (rent it) when it's out.
