Do you watch TV if so why

I think it sucks. Everything on it except the news and porn. These so called reality shows aren't even realistic, take the mtv show for an example. What the hell is so real about a show that has college age students living in some giant house in Miami beach and they have some lame ass excuse for a so called job.

Fuck if this is real then sign me up because I want to go to some island where I'm in competition with others to win the chance to win a pair of shoes

I watch reruns of the Simpsons, my TV DVD cartoons (Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, South Park, King of the Hill, Dilbert, the Critic), new eps of the Simpsons, King of the Hill, the Daily show on occasion, and that's it. My job requires me to do a media scan on a daily basis, so I get the news from there and stay up to date on current affairs.

As far as actually new programming is concerned, I'm limited to Simpsons, King of the Hill, and the Daily Show. Sad, as I used to be a hardcore TV junkie. Like the music industry, it's sadly turned into some serious crap. Used to watch that classic show Most Xtreme Elimination Challenge when it was on, but haven't seen it in a while.

Heavenly

I have problems sleeping, and TV helps me pass the time.
But now they took away my cables. I guess not paying for 3 months had something to do with it. redface

We cancelled cable a few years ago because we were fed up with the crap. Unfortunately, I miss shows like Inside the Actors Studio, The Osbournes, and the ocasional musical guest on Leno or Letterman, etc. Oh yeah, and we used to catch Northern Exposure re-runs and tape them. Can't wait for the dvd release! Every once in a while there would be a good music documentary or concert, but very rarely. So I don't miss it too much. We just rent movies now.

I only watch 2 things on TV - Timberwolves basketball games and the Fox show "Arrested Development." I have never seen Survior or Friends or any of that other crap, but Arrested Development is hysterical and witty and I kind of love it.

I love watching TLC, Discovery, HGTV, and Food Network.

I used to be completely hooked on Trading Spaces and While You Were Out, but they've both become really stupid lately. They're way too predictable. You can almost guarantee that Vern is gonna velcro something to the wall, Hildy is gonna make someone cry, and the fat old guy is gonna cover the room with his ugly illustrations. Plus, there's only so many variations on plywood entertainment centers and slip covers...

And then theres Mario Batali, LOL, he looks about as italian as Conan O'Brien... smile

I watch TV because my husband refuses to let me get rid of it and i have no self-control. mad

We have Tivo though (woot!), so I watch a lot less random crap and commercials than I used to. I really like the Daily Show, Sunday Night Sex Show, South Park, and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. But I would prefer to watch none of that. It's just when I'm tired after work and stuff, brainless entertainment like that is such an appealing option. disbelief

I just saw a programme on the Turin Shroud which was quite interesting. They were refuting the carbon dating which places its origins in the middle ages, and presenting evidence which takes it much further back, i.e the first century (the time of Christ).

Just thought I'd share that .

hmmm

That's interesting. I was reading recently about the relative unreliability of carbon dating until the last 5 or so years.

Yes! contamination can affect the results. In this case the piece that was submitted for carbon dating was from a corner of the cloth which had been handled repeatedly, more than the rest of the cloth. It was interesting stuff.
