MONSTER'S BALL!!! I finally watched it a few weeks ago....one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life.
I can't believe this was considered a good movie. Hell,I would have rather seen Halle win an Oscar for Bulworth or even freakin BAPS YUCK!!!!! I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

its a beautiful and haunting silent film where whats expressed is far more important then whats said....
halle's perfomance is wonderful and deserving of the awards she recieved...if you want proof look at the extras and you will find an outtake were billy bob is making halle laugh while they driving... the director says "action" and halle immediatly goes into character...she looked like a completly different person afterwards.... if you can look beyond the sex and look at the characters...if you think about the chains that need to be broken by both billy bob and halle's characters..you will see that each of them react and act in ways that are so human... much more human then what is normally allowed on screen.... someone mentioned how "Lost In Translation" was a great american made foreign film..i'd like to add Monster's Ball *and* "In The Bedroom" to that list... I can't believe this was considered a good movie. Hell,I would have rather seen Halle win an Oscar for Bulworth or even freakin BAPS YUCK!!!!! I fully agree, it was pretty crappy. Mayb Berry's performance was OK, but how anyone could give an Oscar to an actor in such a lousy movie is beyond me. It is one of those few movies (of course i read all the hype b4 i watched it so xpectations were high) that was sub-par on almost every level. "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

Personally, I think the film was extremely touching at times, and on the whole very well played. However, i was a bit surprised at what seemed to be a slightly abrupt ending - I didn't quite feel that the issues were explored fully. If that was intentional, then I don't think it wholly worked.
On balance, I think Halle Berry's performance was very good (and deserved her oscar), and Billy Bob was typically outstanding And of course Halle is outrageously gorgeous, most beautiful woman in the world etc. etc.

Although i would like to add that I think Bulworth is Halle's best performance, and a better film than Monster's Ball.

I think it was hard for the actors to play their roles. Halle did a great job and Billy Bob was superb, as always. Halle deserved her Oscar. She hung herself out there for the whole world to see.

Exactly! For me, I guess it's the idea of how individuals evolve mentally and emotionally. How they can open their minds and transform themselves. And realize that people are more alike than they are different.

I found it to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I thought the characters were unbelievable and found their personal-improvement arc to be laughable. After one night of sex, they magically change into better people. And, the ending was so weak, I felt bad about seeing that film.
I thought the title was all wrong. It should've been, "In Hell," because that's where the characters seemed stuck.

It should've been, "In Hell," because that's where the characters seemed stuck. yeah, uninhibited sex is what it took to get these two to wake up...but how or why would you think they were better people? they just lived.....he kicked out his dad cause he wanted to be with his woman...other then that they were both two sad depressing people...just together...and the ending left things wide open..you dont know if things are going to get better or if they will go back to their old ways... just like real life... It wasn't realistic at all. She loses her son, gets blind drunk and screws someone during her mourning. I do not understand how anyone could even go through such an act after losing their child. Badly written script, shocking dialogue, Hollywood at it's worst yet again.

I thought the title was all wrong. It should've been, "In Hell," because that's where the characters seemed stuck. It's just that it seemed that the bulk of the movie was cut, so it seemed so hollow. Like there was actually supposed to be more to the story, or something. They did WHAT??!.... Org Sci-Fi Association
