South Park gets away with all kinds of crazy shit!

i am watching south park...for, like, the 3rd time in my life...and there was an episode about ben and jennifer. well, the whole show was full of racist spanish/latin/puerto rican jokes. "bean breath", "picante pants", all sorts of off the wall shit. by the end of the show jennifer lopez was working at a taco stand. how do they get away with it?

[Edited for less generalized blame... we are talking about a show, not an entire race. - June7]

'In Living Color' (one example) did that stuff all the time, too--it was meant to press buttons and make fun of racial stereotypes, just as South Park does. shrug

Ask Isaac Hayes, he doesn't seem to have a problem with it and hell, he's Black Moses. neutral

How is David Chapelle different? Just curious, I find him very funny! I missed the episode and I'm sorry you took it as offensive... stupid assed cartoon anyway!

honestly, i wasn't offended, lol. just surprised. it was obviously offensive. dave chappelle is a great socio-political comic. and he succeeds in his deliverance. he makes fun of black people who live up to sterotypes while, at the same time, pointing out other ignorant behaviour from other races. south pak just seems to go directly for shcok value with no real intent other than to surprise. but that's just my take on it. like i said, i've only watched the show about 3 times...maybe 4...but not 5, lol.

I have to admit, I've seen the episode you're talking about and it's probably my second favorite right after the one where Sidney Poitier and Robert Smith kick mecca Streisand's ass. It's hilarious! It's a talking hand! I was singing the song "I love you more than tacos" for days. I guess I can see how someone could find it offensive. But it's so over the top assinine, you just can't take it seriously.

I'm not a regular South Park watcher, but I've seen my fair share. They actually do a LOT of satire on that show (along with the plain vulgar, for sure). Their favorite targets appear to be celebrity, religion, how adults treat kids, double standards with sex and violence, etc. There have been hilarious episodes focused on things like plastic surgery (a little girl in their class gets a boob job to get attention from the boys and her parents are totally down for it) and giving kids Ritalin (drugging kids instead of paying attention to them).

It's pretty damned funny to me, most of the time, lol.

I love David Chappelle... I was looking for him on Comedy Central tonight and couldn't find him... lol. South Park... I agree with you completely and haven't watched the show in about two years... when it first came out I thought it was funny, then, all of a sudden, it just wasn't.

Chappelle makes fun of us all... he just does it in a different way. He makes it seem like he's cracking on his own race, while at the same time hitting others, like you pointed out. Other comedians, as well as that show called South Park, just go in for the kill and mask nothing.

Let's not ignore all the white jokes we see on TV all the time. I saw a black comedianne talking about "white bitches" in her stand-up. If that were a white woman talking about "black bitches", there would be a major stink about it. So believe me, everyone gets away with some shit.

I agree. Sometimes I'll be watching South Park and just be like, "Dayum!! eek I can't believe they just said that!!" but then I burst out laughing because it's still funny as hell. lol
I love it because it's a backlash against how society has become so P.C. these days.

co-sign to all of that!

My roomie is a South Park nut, so I've seen many more episodes than I ever meant too. I think they do a go a bit far in pushing buttons ("cripple fight!" lol ) But, they are equal opportunity offenders that more often than not make a point in the midst of the jokes.

I am a Latino male, and find that episode very funny. It would be one thing if they only fuck with one race... but MoFo's are fuckin' on themselves, Canadians, blacks, whites, Jews, Asians, Homosexuals, etc...

If you're gonna watch it (which is your CHOICE), be prepared to be shocked... the show is KNOWN for it's shock value.

I love South Park. nod
